Hello everyone,

I go and pick up my baby on Friday as some of you have already read. I am a mother of a yorkie baby, so I already have a good idea of what items I need to purchase for my new baby. I thought I would check with you guys to see if there is something I need to get specifically for a Maltese. Also I need harness suggestions.

I'm in Illinois, apx 1 hour 1/2 outside of Chicago and we have a lot of snow. I know some people train their dogs to go on pee pads and outside, but I think that really confused Kiki (my yorkie). I am thinking I need to stick with just taking him outside. How are the Maltese out in cold, snowy weather? I know Kiki never wants to come in know matter how much snow we have or how cold it is.

Thanks ahead of time!

Tammy

Congrats on soon getting your new baby!!!! Make sure we see pictures!!! :)
Since your already a mommy of one, alot of the stuff will be the same I would imagine !!! You might want to get a different brush, incase of mats, and tear stain remover .. be prepared for those to drive you NUTS !!!! hahaha
And the whole pee situation, I think it's what the dog gets used to. Kallie is trained on the pee pads, thats all she has ever used, and all she ever will. She hates it outside in the cold, but that is probably because she has never had to go out there !!!

Good luck with your new baby!!!!

Hope this helped a little bit :)

Aww Congrats on your new little one. Yes you will have most things so I wouldn't stress too much about getting a lot of things. When I got Cosmo I didn't have much and I went to the store later that day. Also I have heard that when introducing a new pup to an already existing pup that you should introduce them on neutral ground but I am not sure thats just what I heard. Good Luck! Make sure to post lots of pics:) :D

Well, we don't have snow in Florida but when it is cold outside, it is hard to get Kallie back inside. She'd lay out there all day if I let her, so the cold doesn't bother her one bit!!! And as ladyjazz said, it would be best to introduce them in a neutral location so neither becomes territorial! JMO

i used to take one of my malts outside but with the cold we both hate it
so both my malts love to be inside :) and they are somewhat potty train when they want to be but whatever you decide yorkie and maltese is not much difference if your yorkie is fine with going outside in that weather maltese will be fine too.

Thank you so much for your suggestions. Is there a particular name brand of tear stain remover I should get?

Neutral location? Do you mean outside of the home?

Thanks!

Yes, maybe a park up the road from you, or even take Kiki with you to pic up your new baby.
It doesn't snow at all where I am, but mine love running around in the rain and rolling in puddles.
Your new baby will get used to what ever you decide.
All the best and I can't wait to see pics ( of both babies)
