I don't think you will ever find a maltese, let alone a puppy for even $180.......even rescues charge more than that. And for a female it will even cost more.......lots more! If you are really looking to adopt for that price, the local pound where some pet owners surrender their fluff would be a place to start or the ASPCA in your local area.

For $180 you are not going to get a purebred maltese female unless one just by chance shows up at your humane society or local ASPCA. If you can only spend $180 and really want a dog, I would seriously forget about breed and go to the pound and get a cute little mixed breed. There are plenty out there that need to be loved.

I completely agree.. your not going to find a purebred maltese for 180$.. my Mitzy is a first generation morkie and she is all white. I paid slightly less than $180 for her too.. She was $300 originally but I talked the lady down. I would search some rescues or shelters if you really want a purebred or else raise your price.. Basic shots for the dog are probably going to cost more than $180
Good luck with your search

Mitzy is adorable. Chipper is a maltese/long haired chihuahua mix. My children's aunt is a breeder and this wasn't supposed to happen so she gave him to the kids. We love him just as much as if we had paid a fortune for him. I love the way the pure breeds look and their beautiful hair but it is not really important to me. My family was just looking for love and boy did we find it! If you are just looking for a companion there are lots out there that are mixed but have the great maltese look and personality and a lot of them need a loving home.

Wow, must shelters and rescue places I think would charge more than $180!!! We paid over $300 for Jack from the shelter. They have to recover their costs for taking care of these animals, but good luck anyway if you can find one.

Here in Pensacola you can get a rescue from the shelter for $45. Then they even give you a certificate to have them altered.
OP please seek a rescue. :)

I just want to say that alot of you on here are INCORRECT.
There ARE websites where people will rehome their dogs, even purebread malteses, for under $200.00. Hell, I was GIVEN Caesar at no cost. The poster does have a valid point. im repulsed at people who "sell" dogs for thousands just to make a quick dollar. Rehoming a dog shouldn't be about making money off of it, but finding it a good forever home.
You can find maltese/small dog rescue places locally, and even stumble across some at shelters. So I just think it's quite rude for some of the comments on here to say things like, "Are you SERIOUS?"
It's better to re-home a Maltese that needs a home than go buy one off a breeder who just wants to use their poor dog as a mean to supplement their income. So if the original poster IS reading, PLEASE check around locally. It is very possible to find your perfect puppy if it's meant to be! :hearter:

There is a big difference between breeders who breed just to have puppies to sell and breeders who breed responsibly for the betterment of the breed. I am going to assume the OP wants a puppy that represents the breed well - and with a budget of $180, that is hard to find. It's possible to get a retired show dog for that price (which covers the cost of spaying/nuetering and teeth cleaning) or a rescue, but I see nothing incorrect with what has been said in previous posts. I actually think people have been helpful and providing links, etc.
If someone ever approached me about one of my dogs that had previously surrendered a dog they didn't want anymore, I would say that my dogs were not available to them. I think that is what stemmed the 'are you serious?" posts. I can't imagine many of us on this forum who would ever even consider getting rid of a dog we didn't want but i can understand things sometimes happen beyond our control.

I think that with having rescued three of the four fluffs that I own, I can honestly say that I have never been able to find one for under $200..........I did get Buffy free but it cost me $450 to get her utd on shots, spayed and a dental and healthy from the gum infection that nearly killed her. Kallie was a rescue that cost us $200 but then we had to put another $250 in her to get her utd with shots, spayed, dental. Now to Toby, he was already utd, neutered and was a rehome at six months but cost us $350 as the purchase price but of course he is a yorkie. Then we have Brandy that cost us $250 but was from a rescue and utd and spayed already. We did have to get her a dental so by far she was the most reasonable........she had been droped off at a local pound and a rescue saved her from that kill shelter and she came into our lives within two weeks. So shelters are the best place to find a fluff for within the original posters financial capabilities.
I did check with a few breeders and they did have a few retirees that would cost me around $200-500 depending on the breeder to adopt. I was also offered a few older retirees "free" but declined them. I just think that limiting yourself to what the original poster can afford is going to be difficult to find a purebred maltese unless you are patient or wait until someone is in a position to rehome such as how you got Ceasar There are a lot of rescues who have a maltese, but not for $180.

I don't think I was rude at all. I think you are confusing re-homing a Maltese verses purchasing one.
I helped re-home Buffy from an acquaintance that was looking for a good home for her. I got her to Carol for "free" but like Carol said it cost her several hundred to get her straightened out.
Now purchasing a Maltese from a reputable breeder and what I mean by reputable I mean a person that first off sells healthy tested Maltese that resemble the breed standard. Preferably a person that shows Maltese since they are aware of what the Maltese standard is and is judge on that.
My Mia is from a BYB and she cost $1,200 to buy her and so much more because of the health issues. I adore her and would never think of re-homing her. I got Cody from another person that needed to re-home him and he cost me $400 and thank God he was healthy. I got KCee from a rescue that rescued him from a puppy mill. I don't remember how much he cost me but I think it was in the $300's. Bella is from a show breeder that needed to re-home her Maltese because of health issues again she cost me either $1,000 or $1,200 I don't remember.
Re-homing should def. be less expensive or even free then right out purchasing a dog. You need to keep in mind that rescues and some breeders try to recoop some of the money spent on spaying and dentals. Rescues at least live off of adoption fees and donations. They need money to get the medical care for the dogs.
I got a Yorkie that needed re-homing. I believe I paid $400 for him from someone in Central Florida. He had a liver shunt and LP on both knees. I am almost positive the previous owners knew about his issues. Liver Shunt surgery would run me $3,000 and at the time I could not afford it so I wanted to do what was the best for him and I reluctantly turned him over to a friend that runs a rescue for medically needy dogs. I donated what I could monetarily towards his care. She got him the surgery at a discount since that is what they do. He was placed in a home for a re-homing fee of $500 I believe. What did the $500 cover? Only a fraction of the surgery and his upkeep. So when I ask "is this a joke?" There are reasons behind it.
The priority is finding the dog a home that is suitable if you need to re-home your pet but unless the person is your friend 99% of the time there are cost involved and much more than $180 and that is just an upfront cost. You don't know what that dog will end up costing you if they aren't healthy.

My local SPCA has adoptions for small or purebreed dogs for $150. But you have to be quick specially on purebred.
I believe the workers hold them for there own family/friends members. When I wanted to adopt I was searching and the first day they put an ad on one of their fluffs I called and they told me he was on hold for someone . Just my thought.
I'm sure it can be done but not everyone is that lucky.
