My first love is yorkies, I have been owned by 2 for 5 years now. I made a career change this year to dog grooming and found myself in love with a few of my doggy clients, Morkies (Maltese/yorkshire terrier). I am not a big fan of mixed breeds, personally. But I was attracted to these guys. And then I switched dogs with another girl I was working with to groom a Maltese and I was head over heels in love!!
I simpley adored her and sicne then I have been lucky to groom a few Maltese and I do love the breed.
We have been thinking of adding to our family (the four legged kind) and I announced it would a be a Maltese.
So I am here to learn as much as I can, perhaps I can give some grooming tips and make some friends!

Thank you!
I will be taking my time with this! My family teases me because I research everything till I am a little know it all (for example it took me about 1 year to decide what kind of dog to get, then 6 months of research and well voer a year to change careers and to do dog grooming)

I have a feeling it will be difficult to find a breeder. My children are small, I work and I have a large breed dog. Many breeders have been upfront that they would not even consider me.

But i will keep looking and hopefully find a breeder who will let me explain our homelife. Yes my children are small, my oldest is 2 1/2 my youngest 7 months (both boys). We own a small old (150 yrs +) farmhouse, next door to my parents in a small town. My std poodle, is a doll, funny, silly and was raised with toy poodles and then came to a home with yorkies. Our yorkies were here first and live a bit of spoiled life, expected to behave. Our home is sectioned off with baby gates, my kids are in their playroom and the dogs have the run of the house. We have the strict rules that dogs + kids=supervision 100%. We have had no accidents with our small dogs or large dog, no incidents. I trust my dogs but they are dogs and my kids are kids, and hubby and I feel it is our responsibity.
Hubby is an engineer and builds gas stations all across the US (go figure cause he works here in Canada), I am opneing a new groomin shop next week (yikes coming so soon!) in another town. My view is Calais, ME! I am right on the border.
I have the ideal job where I can take my dogs to work, do something I love and i am the boss. I am also the dog groomer for my local SPCA.

I will have lots of questions, and I will chime in where I can!
Thank you for the warm welcome!

Carla, what I did was show Carlos pictures of Maltese everyday he kept saying how cute they were but was firm in not getting another baby. Finally, he broke down after a month!:D Good Luck!!!!
