I just saw this on katv.com a local news station and there is a recall on Peanut butter, Peter Pan and Great Value, with lot numbers that start with 2111 it has been contaminated with Salmonella it was traced back to Aug 06 and have had 300 cases but none fatal. If you go to www.katv.com there is an article with a phone number to contact ConAgr.

If you saw the mold on the peanuts that get missed on the assembly line you would never ever eat any product with nuts in it.:sickie:
I haven't eaten peanut butter since the Chinoble (sp) incident. But Australians are not huge Peanut Butter eaters not like the States. We only have it as a spread for bread.

Right, In Australia, do you still use things like Vegimite? Forgive the spelling, it's been years since I've seen the stuff.
My neice sent me this notice.....and we had a jar in the cabinet that is one of the same lot numbers.... So I called the school, but oldest child had already eaten hers.. I swear, I would NEVER have thought of Peanut Butter being contaminated with Salmonella..
I guess I will be watching her tonight.

I just threw my Reduced Fat Peter Pan peanut butter away. It started with 211 - I know they said save the lid if you want a refund, but I cannot remember where I bought it and it would be more hassle than it is worth. I also have a jar of Reduced Fat Jif, so will eat that instead...

yes, Vegemite is a traditional spread on toast here and a vegemite and cheese sandwich is to die for. :D
My hubby is English and cannot stand the stuff or the smell. So I have to hide my jar if I want to keep it as he is prone to throw it in the garbage if he comes across it. I also, every now and again, get a lecture from him on how it is made .... like that will stop a vegemite addict lol
I hate food scares. Hopefully anyone who has eaten the Peanut Butter has not had enough of the spread to get ill or suffer any consequences.

We bought peanut butter just the other day, and it has the 2111 on it too! We haven't eaten any of it though, thank goodness.

Wow, and I love peanut butter! I wonder how salmonella could get into peanut butter?

Bad food handling. Machinery contaminated. Lots of variables.

:( :( :( I looked at the wrong numbers. I looked at the product code instead of the number on the lid! Both jars have the 2111 beginning numbers. My hubby is the only one that eats peanut butter and he already had some out of the one jar but the other jar is not even opened. He did not get sick but we're not eating anymore. I was absolutely stunned!!:( :( :(

Sounds like a precautionary recall to me.
Peanuts are always suspicious and if there is any hint of contamination they need to recall the product.
We all eat a little salmonella everyday if the food we eat has been prepared in less than ideal conditions. I figure you are going to have to eat quite a bit or be really unlucky to get really ill.
I once purchased a block of a famous brand chocolate and that evening as hubby and I settled down to watch a movie I snapped the block in half and being greedy I kept the half that had that little bit more on from were I snapped it crookedly. Well just as I popped that extra bit in my mouth and was about to swallow it my hubby said did they charge you any extra for the mould :fainted: :sickie:
Sure enough the mould was right at the break. :fainted:
I still have the $10 compensation cheque they sent me and I still cannot buy their chocolate.... ten years later.

My mother fell terribly ill yesterday and is still sick and well the day before she had the Peter Pan Peanut Butter. I still have not heard back as to if its the 2111 jar but we will see. She is on her way to the doctor as we speak:(
