I have a thirteen week old Maltese and I am taking him to the groomer for the first time... I have had a Yorkie before and we had his legs trimmed up quite closely. I have noticed that most of your pictures have longer hair on feet and legs. My babys feet smell like pee though. Should I get his feet and legs trimmed? I'm definitely asking for his belly and bottom to be trimmed.
I'm considering growing him out since aside from the pee thing, he doesn't seem to get as oily, yucky as the yorkie. How often do you bath your babies?
What shampoos work best for you?

I have a female maltese and a male yorkie and I have to bath the yorkie more often than the maltese. If you are considering letting his hair grown out, you could go ahead and trim the feet as I have to trim the feet of the maltese at least once a month so it will grow out by the time his hair gets that long. LOL.....not sure about the legs though. Think I would not have them cut the hair there. JMO

The Yorkie is once a week!! A must! But the Maltese I can let go sometimes for two weeks, no odor and not oily looking. But 10 days is a better schedule. I use Petsilk and like it the best so far. I may try some of the CC products everyone raves about next. I have used other products too, but I vary what I use there would be too many to list.........also be careful with overusing the whitener shampoos as it tends to dry the hair.

Thank you! Yes, Yorkie was at least once a week.. I have not used a whitening shampoo yet. Maybe just for special occassions. He is such a pretty dog...and so much calmer than my yorkie.
Thank you again for advice. I will search for both shampoos this week.

I have to agree, the Yorkie is much more active and frisky than the maltese. The maltese is so calm and sweet. The yorkie is younger too so he may get calmer as he ages..........I can only hope. LOL But the demeanor of the maltese is what attracted me to them and of course the gorgeous long hair and topknots was another! BUT, the yorkie is a lover and kisser too just a ball of fire! Love them both!

Hi--
You didn't say when you were taking your Malt in to get groomed, but I just wanted to mention that you need to wait until he's had all of his shots--this is usually around 16 weeks, and then wait at least a week or so after that to make sure they have taken effect just to be on the safe side. :)
I've never had Perri's legs trimmed, except to have the hair around the feet rounded a bit for a neater look. I do have his tummy hair trimmed very short--you can't see it, and that way there's no pee in the hair. I bathe every 10 days, and I like the CC Day to Day line followed by the AfterBath, and for a whitening shampoo I like Isle of Dogs, followed by their heavy management conditioner. :)

It just amazes me how gentle and calm he is for a puppy. I was prepared for the hyper active puppy and he just seems to respond to everything I do! He seems like he will be a joy to train!
