I have a new litter of puppies and I have never had any tear stain on any of my other puppies before. But this litter has some tear stains, (not as bad as others I have seen but I don't like any) Does any one know of a good stain remover that is safe for puppies?? :)

I don't know of anything you can use to treat tear stains on puppies except to keep the faces washed and dry. When they get older and have their secondary teeth there are a lot of products that can be helpful in removing the stains. But for now, just keeping the face washed will help. That's all I can tell you.

How old are the puplets?

You can supplement mom with powdered butter milk. And then when the pups are weaned you can mix it in their food. Or make them milk with it. This is not a fool proof method. But it does help.

I might be getting a year old little girl this week...it looks like she may have mild tear stains too, not too bad though. Is it too late to remove or prevent them from getting worse? She has been groomed regularly so maybe there is nothing that can be done?

it's better to wait till all teething is over and then you can start.
Good Luck

I usually just wash Mitzy's face in the morning with a warm washcloth and it seems to work well.. I do have angel eyes just in case but have never used it:blush:even though she does have some staining it seems if I keep it clean its not as dark

OOHH...I am so glad you said that Becky...Zoe only gets the tear stains seasonally...right now, it is getting bad and then yes again in the fall. I have used Angel Eyes, Eye Envy, Diamond Eye...the seasonal stains are just part of her. I keep her face clean and use the Spa facial scrub also.

I do... I havn't really seemed to pay attention to change in seasons but now that you mention it it seems that through november we battled with them because at Thanksgiving they were awful and now nothing really.

Although I think I am going to start the Angel Eyes soon because I want to grow her eye hair back out (her last groomer cut it at Thanksgiving becuase it was so bad ) and I want it to grow out clean.. Guess I'll have to searching through threads about angel eyes :tounge:

I have noticed it with most of mine also. It is weird and oh so aggravating. Do the antibiotic based products help Elizabeth? I am wondering if something like Benadryl or Zyrtec may help more.

Before you start on the antibiotics I can not help but wander if something for allergies will help. I know that a good friend of mine that has two of my dogs lives outside of Atlanta and I have suggested the same to her.

You know I always believed also, staining may be genetic
What do you think? Nemo never ever has stains, the only time was when I put him on Nutro dog food and as soon as I switched to NB they went away/

I have used Diamond Eyes on D'Jollee and it did burn her hair! Was awful. And yes, I did condition after!!

D'Jollee and D'Sugar were on a teaspoon of all natural yogurt a day for a few months and after a week, I saw a big difference: the new growth was white.

Just have to be careful with it as it tends to soften the stools!

Eye Envy works quite well, but not as well as what they advertise!! It does remove a lot of the stains on the old growth!

I think it does. And if you have it in your lines it can take a very long time to breed it out. Just like with any trait.

A lot of it can have something to do with teeth and ears also. There are so many things that can cause the staining. Diane I like the idea of the yogurt. I had heard that before. But being my luck the loose stool would turn into the runs...

The Angel Eyes did help alot, but I was trying to stay away from it because of the antibiotic in it...also, Abbie does not have this problem like her sister and it would be hard to keep their food separate. Eye Envy helps but does not remove the stains entirely (like the Angel Eyes did when Zoe was younger). That is a good suggestion...it appears I am not the only one in the house with seasonal environmental allergies.:wink5:

Well her only allergies (that we know of) are fleas. She has no food allergies but Im not sure about enviormental. She getgs benedryl when shes itchy but to be honest it doesn't seem to help at all.. But the vet says it does.. So I will ask him if there is something else to help
