We just got frosty last night and to be his first night he behaved, I am trying to teach him to go potty outside, I took him out last night and he did go, any advise for good success? I did alot of research on the breed, but we have never had a dog or any pets in the house. My kids LOVE dogs but my son has allergies, wich I know that Maltese are good dogs for people with alergies. My kids love him alredy:) I hope it all turns out good :)

Hi and Welcome to Maltese Talk!
Congratulation on your new baby!
The best way is to take him outside a few minutes after he finishes eating, when he wakes up from a nap, after he plays. And when he does his business, tell him what a good boy he is and make a big fuss about him!
If he has an accident in the house, please, just tell him no and take him outside!
And just enjoy Frosty!

I soooooooo agree!!!! Keep tabs on him; they have small bladders and so may need to go more often until he gets a little older. Some people give lots of verbal praise when they potty outside (I certainly agree with that) but I also give a tastey treat when they potty outside. At first I gave them the treat right after I verbally rewarded them before even going back inside. Also taking them to the same area where the scent from previous eliminations will encourage him to go. If he has an accident in the house make sure you clean the area really well so that he does not repeat the offense in the same spot. It will take time especially since he is very young but be patient, consistant and ENJOY your new little fluff!

Ahhh puppy breathe - Congrats on your new puppy - cute name for him. I agree with the other posters. Treats/praise goes a long way. Be consistent in whatever you decide in the way of training. Also pups do not have full control of their bodily functions until 7 months or more. For accidents in the house you can keep/use White Vinegar & Water in a spray bottle - works well with accidents.

I agree with what's already been posted. When we got Paris, she and I slept on the couch for about two months. I would get up with her every few hours and take her outside...pretty much like having a baby again. When she was about four months old, she started sleeping through the night. I also used vinegar on the carpet where she did have accidents. Be sure and use the same words for when Frosty does go. (Paris knows the difference between "potty" and "poop".) And they love to be showered with praise. Potty training is not something that will happen overnight, but it will happen. Good luck!
