Hihi!

So it'll soon be summer (yay) and I want Ava to be able to play outside. But, the dog run at my apartment complex is kinda gross (People don't pick up their puppy poops) and I dont want Ava to roll around in it. And my parents don't have a fenced in backyard...

I was thinking about getting a really long leash (like 20') so I could hold one end and make sure she doesn't get into trouble.

But growing up, we had a "sky run" for our golden retriever, and do you think this is a better idea?

I just want to keep her safe and still let her have fun.

Suggestions?

I'd like to know what a sky run is too!

I hear ya on the rolling in the poop. While mine don't do that, if there is a nice, moist, ugly worm in the grass, they will roll on them. Here is Buffy with a "LIVE" worm after a good roll!:lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2:

You must remember that was shortly after we got her from "Maggie" and she brought some of Mia's bad habits with her. She has been refined into a nice young lady now! :p :p :p

(Maggie is going to kill me for this):lol2::lol2::lol2:

Is that like a clothesline thing?? Or the kind you "screw" into the ground??

It appears to be a clothesline type run. I know for mine, it is out of the question because of the hawks in the area........they'd be sitting ducks for any hawks nearby and the other is the "heat" of Florida. But I don't see a problem with it if you don't have the type of problems I have.

I think if like a clothsline thing it would be good as long as your supervising (which I think is what you want this for) Even the screw in type would be ok as long as you are supervising the whole time! There are to many things she could get hung up on!! I like the idea of the clothesline one because she can run back and forth.. you could play fetch with her even and she doesn't have all that slack dragging behind her

I don't see the point in chaining them up to a run and then watching them. Why not put ya jogging shoes on and take her for a walk and run.

Maybe go to the doggy run area and do a poop patrol and clean up and then allow her in. I personally would complain to the head of your appartment block about people not picking up after their animals. That is just gross..

we get letters all the time from the complex complaining about people not picking up their poop but it doesn't work =C

I don't want to just put her outside and leave her. I want to be playing with her. And I dont mean like..just take her for walks, i wanna play fetch and stuff.

we went to the dog run today with my roomie and Chester, and it was DISGUSTING. absolutely gross. Poop -everywhere- Ava didn't really want to explore, she stayed near the bench with me and the roomie. She did follow Chester at one point, but came right back.

what to do, what to do!

Alright, going to jump in the shower because I just bathed Ava and i'm soaked through! (Silly dog hating baths!)

I think the Skyline Run is a great idea and I might have to get one for Gracie. And I am like you. I don't want to put her out there and leave her alone. I want to be able to play with her without her running away. G has to be on a leash at all times (unless we are in the dog park) but I want her to run and play! Thanks for telling us about the skyline run.

We have a few decent dog parks here too but you are right; there are still many people that won't pick up the poo. Gross.

Have your asked your apt complex manager to post signs or even send letters to the dog owners to pick up their dogs poops under the penalty of a fine? Just because it's a dog run doesn't mean they don't have to pick up their dogs poops. Is this area ever cleaned up? Can you and others start a campaign of clean up - guidelines in your complex.
