My question is in the other thread about this dog post #5 says
"My vet was ready to put her down, because he did not see her making it,"
why did your vet want to put her down? why would he want to put down a healthy dog?

I have little tolerance for people who charge for adult breeding dogs, especially when they should be treated as retirees. Maybe it is your wording that I don't like - since it's not unreasonable to expect to be reimbursed for spaying/teeth cleaning cost when placing a retiree. But trying to justify it by talking about your costs and saying that you'd pay the same for an unregistered dog is distasteful, in my opinion.
Breeding is expensive and it doesn't always go well, and you have to be prepared for that. If you can't afford the vet costs without expecting someone else to reimburse you, you shouldn't be breeding.
I'm glad your girl survived the pyometra, I know that can be devastating. If nothing else, change your wording (esp in your other post) so it doesn't sound like you're trying to recoup your costs about your failed breeding attempt. Just make sure that girl goes to a good home - she deserves it! Sorry if I am being rude here, btw.

You can word things many ways, and with out beening able to hearing the words from me, people can take it in many different ways. I am not placing her for $500 to get my money out of her because if I did that, I would be ask alot more. Some one will more likely take this the wrong way, but I paid $700 for her and then had over $600 in vet bills, So $500 is just what I think is a fair price for a dog that has what she has to offer a family.
For as me not having the money to breed, I am not one of those breeders that you go to their house and it is more like shack. We have done very good for our self, and if money was a problem for me, I would not have the dogs I have. I would not be like those people that are pour trying to breed dogs that should never be breed. They go out and buy the cheapest dogs out there and then breed them. So I have not spared any expense with my dogs, I get very good bloodlines, food, take them to the vet, and when building my indoor kennel, lets just say it don't look like a kennel inside more like a little girls room. I think it looks better then some little girls bedrooms. So please do not look down on me as if I am one of those breeders living in junk with alot of dogs running, potting and feces all over their smelling house. You know the breeders I am talking about, they are so out there, just not me!!! And may the way you are being rude!!! Don't judge someone as if you are better than them, because as I have a very nice life!!!

I must be just the one everyone wants to be rude to because I just look at another adult that someone has for sale, and everyone has been only nice in there post. She is ask less for her female but she post a picture not and the dog looks to have a cherry eye. IS so one not going to be rude and ask why she has not got vet care for her dog!!!!!! Why just be rude to me?? I get vet care for my dogs, and that is why I think my Christy is worth $500 because she has been taken care of, vet care and has not been just put in some grate her life. She is very Socialized little girl!!! So breeders dogs or not socialized at all. That is not my dogs they love people and other animals.

I don't think any one is being rude, just honest with you. The post you were looking at and referred to was posted last year and the person represented the dogs as puppymill dogs and asked only $300 each right from the start. When you first posted about Christy, I thought you had rescued her myself and you were rehoming her rather than offering for sale a nice female that was from a breeder. I did not know until later that you yourself was a breeder and that you were not able to keep her because of financial reasons (husband lost his job). So that is why some were shocked at the price of $500 thinking she was a "rescued" dog. Others know breeders that sale their "retirees" which is what Christy sounds more like for just the cost of dentals, shots and spaying. I personally can do all those things for around $300-$400.........so in a sense, asking $500 for Christy is not a bad price to ask especially since all those things have been done. But there would still be expenses with Christy as my county would require that I get her a tag (license) and a vet will only dispense heartworm meds after blood work has been done unless proof is given that she has been tested and shown to be negative.
I just think people are questioning things because of the confusion presented by your first post.........so be patient and understanding of their feelings and opinions as well. I personally have spent well over $500 on a couple of my rescues to get them up to par with shots, spaying, etc.
And I am sorry if anyone was rude to you or you felt that you were being picked on. She sounds like a very sweet little matlese and I hope she finds her forever home soon!

I am sorry you feel you are being attacked.. When I read these posts I saw how you could feel you were being attacked. People here feel so strongly about these little fluffs some can be overprotective and come off a little rude.. I think its good your searching for a "good" home for this fluff, you obviously care for her and am doing right by her, but I do think $500 can be a but pricy for a rehome.
Please do stick around, this IS a nice forum WITH nice people, just opinionated ;) I was run off from a forum for simply being unknowledgable (which is why I joined the forum to begin with). I think you'll come to like it here

I live in Louisiana and would be more than happy to adopt Christy into my family.
Money is out of the question for me...but I can offer her a nice home with a big yard, a warm place to sleep, some friends to play with, and a loving family.
If you're really serious about giving her a second chance, PM me.

Sorry I am not giving her away, I will keep her before I do that. Thank you anyway, but I am not giving a $800 dog away.

I wanted to say thank you to the ones that wrote back about the rude part. I understand their is many different types of people and breeders in the world. And with just text know one knows just what type of person I am. And you may be right other breeders or puppy mill dogs by sell for less but they have most the time not been in a house, around poeple or kid, not played with and loved on daily. Most of those dogs take time to fit in and sometime it is very hard for the ones that has only known crates their hole life to ever fit in. This is not the case with Christy, she has been raise in a house, around people, kids, and other pets. She would be able to walk in someones home and be like she has been there her hole life. That is the way she is. When I got her that is what she did at my home. I would love to keep her but I can't keep them all, when you are breeding you have to give up some as the get older. It is just part of it.

Exactly! I guess it depends on what's more important... money or finding her a good home. Personally, I think you will be hard pressed to find anyone willing to pay that much for an adult dog especially one with the medical issues she has had.

Lets get 2 things straight, I look at things much different, because if someone don't have money to pay for a dog they should not have one, because they can't afford everyday needs for that dog. 2 she has no medical issues!!!! She is a spayed female. And if I was planning no give her away I would give her to some one I know, not some one I have never seen before. Breeders don't have puppies to get rich, but we don't give them away ether. What most breeder get from puppies and any adult dogs goes to pay any of the bills from the dogs. If you want a free dog go help one out in a shelter.

I'm sorry but you shouldn't generalize. I know 2 well known very respectable breeders that have offered one dog each FREE of charge to two friends of mine. Mind you these are breeders that have poured hundreds of dollars into their dogs. I was also offered a pure AKC Maltese from another breeder free of charge just because she couldn't keep her and need a great home.
So please don't come here and generalize and act like your only interested in the best home for the poor fluff if keeping her is an option well then you should keep her as a "pet".

Yes, you certainly do look at things much differently. No one said they didn't have the money to pay for a dog or for the dogs needs, but asking that much money for an adult dog just seems a little high to me. And I only mentioned the medical issues because YOU said she had been sick.
And if I was planning no give her away I would give her to some one I know, not some one I have never seen before. Breeders don't have puppies to get rich, but we don't give them away ether.
And you just answered what's more important with this statement right here. A breeder who truly cares for the well being of their dogs and not the almighty buck, will place a dog in a good home for and not worry about the financial end of it. Thanks! :)

There are always two sides to every story/situation..........my main concern is that you find Christy a forever home where she will get the love and care that she deserves. Being a little more flexible with the price you are asking might give her that opportunity but I agree that I would not just give her away to someone you did not know. I am happy that she is spayed before she goes to her forever home........there are some that would pay the $500 and then try to breed her for financial gain.
I am sorry that there may have been comments that offended you or upset you but most of our members are very good people and have a passion for fluffs in need. I have rescued three because their chances of getting adopted for $500 would have been next to zero. I could have bred at least two of the three that I rescued but it was out of the question and I immediately had them spayed.
I do hope that you find a good home for Christy. I think that we have all expressed ourselves and need to get back to allowing this to be a "dog for sale" thread! Thanks to everyone for their comments, concerns and interests.
And if anyone is interested in this little girl, please PM or email the owner in Post #1.
