A teenager girl had the flu.
Glad she recover now. I hope it doesnt get worst.

Drugstores and stores that sell mask are going crazy here.
Good thing I have some mask left from my garden work.:D

So far 51 in New York.
I wish someone was on to give me some advice:(
Should I keep them home today? I am mean they say people with a normal immune system should be fine, but still I am worried.
I may just keep them home.
Do you girls think this is a terrorist thing?
Hope everyone stays healthy:hug:

Fort Worth shut down ALL of it's schools until May 8th. They had 1 confirmed case and 10 possibles as of yesterday. Dallas lost its first child to it the other day and there are schools there that are shut down too.

I heard on the news that you need to have a compromised immune system (me and my kids):( and have the flu in order to contract the sickness.

It really comes from inside the a birds intestines and is released by bird droppings. Pigs (swines) then contract it by eating the bird droppings then inside the pig is were everything happens and it becomes the deadly sickness. Hence the name swine flu. The weirdest part is you can't contract it by eating pork.

I don't blame you one bit for keeping them home Andrea..I was listening to the morning news shows and lots of people in NY aren't sending their kids till they get more information.

Andrea, if Anthony starts up with a fever (our news said 100.2F) get him to the dr. immediately. You don't want to take any chances. I don't know if it is the same for children as adults, but please play on the side of caution.

My mom told me that they also shut down 2 schools in Richardson ISD (in the Dallas area).. so it is definitely spreading fast. I did not know of all of the cases in New York, I thought it was more confined to the south.. eek

From what I am seeing and hearing, this is being blown way out of proportion and everyone is starting to panic when it is NOT necessary to.

This flu so far is no more deadly or widespread than any of the common flus people get every year. People die every year from flu bugs but the media doesn't jump on the band wagon like they have this one.

Just use common sense... wash hands, cover your coughing (flu or not) and keep your immune system as healty as you can.

The threat is that when the swine flu goes away... IF if comes back, then it could cause larger problems.

Personally I don't believe it is terroristic at all - I would look at our own gov. and it's adgena before looking at terrorists. JMO!!!!!!! :)

The drs. on the news are saying they are being flooded with people rushing in with every tiny sniffle and cough because people are panicking. They gave symptoms to watch for and said to CALL your dr before coming in to see if you should, because all the "healthy" people coming in are making it hard for them to see the people that really need to be seen.

Guess this is taking everyones minds off the recession, eh? LOL

I agree with you Teri.
The media is blowing this out of proportion.
More people are dying for regular flu than this.
They were just taking about that yesterday on the radio.

They are saying if they have flu like symptoms to NOT take him to the doctor. If you do and he has the swine flu it will get the eniter hospitol sick. They say call first and go from there.

Honestly I don't think its a big of a deal as people are thinking it is. 36,000 people a year die of the regular flu.. And we don't run out and buy masks for that. I think if your that worried just stay home, but I agree with Teri, its gotten way out of control.

I agree with you and like I said if people have even a normal immune system they are safe. I just kept Anthony home cause he is only 8 and may not remember to wash his hands and cover his mouth.
But I do agree it's not as bad as people are making it:D

Why oh why are you always so quick to panic here in the States ? 256 cases WORLDWIDE. How many people live on earth ??? This is just a drop in the water. A lot more people die from a lot of other things including the common flu and nobody even cares about.

Every once in a while something (a virus) has to pop its ugly head up and give us all a scare. I think if you are healthy and you come in contact with the swine flu virus, you have the possibility of catching it but not die from mit and they do have an antibiotic that will help. There has been cases here in Florida as well but like Janine said, those that have died are small in number compared to a real outbreak we need to worry about.

Just keep them hands clean and carry around some antibacteria solution if you have to go out and use it! I personally am not too concerned at the moment with the possibility of catching the swine flu.

I didn't see anyone panicking:D I know more people die from the Flu than this.
But when my 8 year old maybe at risk I will take a precaution or two.
You know 8 year old boys:lol2::lol2::lol2: I remind him ALL the time to wash his hands..
