Hello! I live in los angeles, and I was wondering if anyone here knows of a good breeder in the area? I've looked on the ama website and have only found a few , tried e-mailing them but I couldn't get through :(

I am also still deciding between a yorkie and a maltese. I hear that the maltese is a little more mellow than the yorkie, is this true? My husband and I are looking for a mellow-er dog. Which breed has a higher coat maintenance?

Perhaps I can have some professional opinions from those of you here who own both the maltese and yorkie?

Why dont you get both.:tongue6: Joking. Well i have 2 yorkie girls myself and am currently searching for a maltese, not having much luck.:( . My 2 a have fitted into my family lovley they just seem to go with the fllow i the household. If the kids are home and wanna play with them then they all play. If its only me and hubby and were relaxing they will do the same. They are also very loyal to the family. they seem to fit into all different situations, when we can we also take them on hoildays with us. They are just wee darlings to own and i wouldnt part with them. Now id be interesed to now what people post about their maltys personalitys. Good look on your search im sure what ever decision you make will be good for you, as you are looking at 2 really lovly breeds:smlove2:

If you consider shipping from a very reputable breeder then you will have a wider scope of breeders to choose from & it also depends on how much you are willing to spend & boy v girl!

I have never owned a yorkie but others here own both so i'll let them do the comparisons for ya!:)

I have had a yorkie and so far, my little maltese puppy is such a lap baby/cuddle bug and much much calmer than my yorkie. That could be individual temperaments playing also. My yorkie was very very "energetic" and overall, more agressive. This little maltese just LIVES TO BE LOVED!

I have 24 Yorkies plus a brand new baby Yorkie. I started getting Yorkies 3 years ago. I just got my first two Maltese babies in January. Yorkies and Maltese are very different. Both are loving but Yorkies are always on watch, always alert. The Maltese are much more relaxed. I think I wanted a Maltese colored like a Yorkie but I didn't know that cause I had never had either before. LOL

Yorkies are like on a sugar high all the time and Maltese are like they are on some kind of medication. LOL Whatever they do they are much more mellow than Yorkies. I thot I'd never want any other dogs after I got the Yorkies but when I got these two little guys.......I want to say I wish I had gotten the Maltese first but I can't. I love them both for their differences. If I had gotten a Maltese first, I probably wouldn't have ever gotten a Yorkie and I would have missed out on so much love and fun.

I can't advise you which to pick over the other but if you can only have one or the other I have given you an idea of which will fit into your lifestyle. Sylvia

All up you have 27 dogs

:fainted: That is a LOT of dogs

how do you find time to spend quality time with each dog?

I am worried about getting another and taking time away from the one I have already  Let me in on your secret. :)

LOL Are you kidding? All I have to do is sit down. LOL Better yet sit on the floor. I get more love than I can handle. Sylvia

Thanks for all your advice. Now I am in love with both the maltese and the yorkie!! I would LOVE to get both, but we just can't afford two dogs at the moment.

I guess we will just have to pick one and give it a try! And we're thinking the maltese might fit our lifestyle best, at least right now. I will have to bring the dog to work, so it'll need to be quiet and laid-back (there are other dogs there, oh and humans too :) )

Are there any breeders out there from southern california/california? I would love to meet up with you and your dogs!

Or perhaps some first-hand recommendations?

Any leads would be really really helpful!! Thanks guys!!

Another thing to keep in mind is that generally Yorkies are more expensive than Maltese. I think their maintenance is more expensive too. I think Maltese have been around longer and their health as a breed is more stable. Sylvia
