I'll go first......This may be abit rusty since i learned this story in primary shcool :lol2:
My home town is called St.Albans. It was named after a Roman man that used to hide Christians from Roman soldiers that had orders to hunt and kill them. He was soo inspired by the words of god he became a christian himself, So eventually the Romans captured him and took him to Holy well hill (wich is the town center today but people call it hollywell hill) He was beheaded and his head supossedly rolled all the way down the hill into the river. He was named as a saint for protecting soo many people and dying for Christianity
THere is a tomb for him in St.Albans abbey (the abbey on my profile page)

I love this game! Ok so, I was born in Washington DC and you know who slept there... also slept in the city I grew up in, Alexandria, Virginia. hehehehe
Well George Washington OF course.
OH I know, at one time, Alexandria had the world's narrowest home. This "house" was only 7 feet wide. I found this online and if you wish to see a photo of the house go to http://dcmetrocentric.com/2008/01/21/worlds-narrowest-house/
"Worlds Narrowest House
No really, the world’s narrowest house is in our own backyard. The 350 sf house can be found in Old Town Alexandria sandwiched between two other row homes.
The house is only 7 feet wide and was built in the 1830s in what was originally the alleyway between the two adjoining houses.
Talk about tight quarters, this house is smaller than even the tiniest efficiencies that builders are trying to pass off as apartments in the area!"
And the reason I know so much about this house, is because my Father use to live on that street on the downhill side.

I know very little about where I was born since I left when I was only 5.
But I grew up in Tampa which is now a rather large city. At the time we first moved there, you could buy a three bedroom home for $55,000.........can't do that now. We lived on a dirt road and had to walk two blocks to get our mail which was on a two lane dirt road. Today, the road our mailbox use to be on is now a six lane highway!!!! There is still a trainstation, Greyhound, and one of the largest travelled airports, Tampa International Airport. I also as a young schoolgirl to see one of the presidents of the USA, Presdent John F. Kennedy riding through town. Tampa is also known for the Gasparilla invasion by pirates and parade.

Is this our birthtowns or hometowns? I was born in Germany but I consider my "home" town in TX
We have ALOT of famous athletes from our little old hick town Copperas Cove. Shareka Wright of the WNBA, Charles Tillman of the Chicago Bears, Billy Gillespie Coach of the University of Kentucky, TJ Hollowell played in the NFL, Vontez Duff also NFL, and recently Robert Griffin who is the quarterback of the Baylor Bears (my sister dated him :p)

OK...I have a fact about where I live now in Canada...not my hometown but I am not sure there is anything about that small city in Eastern NC.
I live in Ottawa, Ontario which is the capital of Canada and we have the longest outdoor skating canal in the winter called the Rideau Canal.

My hometown is Aurora. It is named after the Aurora Borealis and was the first town here to have street lights.
My great-uncle, as a young man, helped with digging out the Mastodon Lake in our city park. They found a Mastodon skeleton and thus the lake got it's name.
If anyone has ever heard of Garfield Goose, the creator lived in Aurora.
I loved that show, would run home from school just to watch it.

Ohh, I'll play too...
I live in Nottinghamshire! Home to Robin Hood! We have a castle, the tree that Robin and his Merry Men used to hang out in and lots and lots of Sherwood Forest. I live in a small village called Blidworth, it's really rural and surrounded by the forest. In my village we have a church where Maid Marion and Robin Hood got married and Will Scarlet is buried in the graveyard.
Oh oh, we have a fancy dress store on the main street and they have a 6ft Gorilla, (technically it's a mannequin in a Gorilla costume), that they dress up in different outfits everyday! I bet all of you can say that! :p

YOU never disappoint me Jess! Don't you ever think that! Now why did you go and dye your hair brown??? I have hazel eyes myself! Brown hair with some gray scattered throughout but it's really getting long. I guess we'll decide "when" after you find out about the job. I actually visited the cigar factory in Ybor City on a field trip one time. It is very interesting to watch how skilled and quick a cigar can be hand made. I don't think they exist anymore.
I can remember the day we all lined up on Dale Mabry and I was standing near a McDonald's............they drove by slowing and he gave that big, pleasant smile as he passed waving at everyone. It was just a short glimpse of him but there are some things that you just never forget.

You know they say Texas is one of the best places to live and houses are the cheapest.
Here in New York you get half a house for 500 thousand :o
New York and the subs are SOOOOOOOO expensive.
I would go to Texas but my kids would kill me :(

I want to go to either the Outer Banks of NC or north west NC at the foothills of the mountains on a hugh clear lake. Hubby says it has to be on the water. I want true seasons without extremes.

Actually its a pretty quiet small
town where everyone knows everyone and thinks they know everyones business My grandfather before he passed away ,was not only the baptist preacher and mayor he also taught school for awhile here too (although his main occupation was a social worker/pastor. ) Not many oppturnities in the way of careers most people are tradesman or labors. You would have to go into Baton Rouge, Lafayette, or such for better jobs. We live about 45 minutes from those on eathier side. Very Rural. Ballpark, church, city hall ,grocery store, and post office our whole town is a blink and youll miss it kinda place!!!

That is so the same way I feel I was stabbed in the back many a times by so called friends I finally learned who was true and who wasnt!!! But I also was taught to never judge a book by its cover and I never will.. like your siggy says only god will judge and I wholeheartedly agree with that I just wish there were more people out there that felt the same

My brother's girlfriend lives in one of the Carolina's and he has property in South Caroling and plans on retiring their one day. We use to go once a year and rent a place in the mountains and just chill and hike. It was so much fun. But with four fluffs..........sort of hard to hike. :D
I love Florida because I can't take the cold and the possibility of being shut in by black outs, blizzards, etc. I have the need for getting out when I want to. :D
MT. Dora is alittle city east of me that is just a lovely little place with lots of antique shops and we like it but it is very pricey! But well worth visiting if you are ever in Florida and love anitque shopping.

I've been through Atlanta a couple of times and went to Stone Mountain and to the Underground...........both were inspiring to see!! This time, we may not have time to do much other than see the dog show and help Maggie in her booth!! Hope you can swing by for a visit while we are in Atlanta! :) We'll be there from the 6th (late afternoon) until around noon on Sunday; at least that is our plan for the moment!
My home town is Salem, Ohio. There are many stories about the Civil War and how the Quakers helped the run away slaves in the underground railroad. But I wanted to tell you about Historic Hope Cemetery and the memorial for Goldie Bell Taylor. Goldie Bell died in 1886 at the age of 2. Her father was heart broken. He ordered a marble statue in her image. Her hands are carved so that they nearly touch and you can put a bouquet of fresh flowers in her hands. Her father brought fresh flowers to her grave every day until he died. After his death and until this very day, a fresh bouquet of flowers appear in her hand. Yet noone ever sees the person who puts the flowers there. It remains a mystery.

Spring Hill, Florida started out as a retirement community for northern people.......there weren't a whole of Floridians. Now? Well, it has changed quite a bit and they had to have several new schools built to accomodate all the "younger" families that moved in. Some of the ones that have been around here for a long time say that there wasn't even a grocery store here......now we have "NINE".......

Hmm...
Wonder if this is even going to be interesting...
My hometown, population around 700 (taken from the 2000 census data), is unique in that I've never been able to find another city, town, village, dot-on-the-map, or outpost with anything close to the same name. We are the ONE AND ONLY... Lashmeet, West Virginia.
A few "interesting" facts... Lashmeet is approximately 12 miles north-west of the Mercer County seat, Princeton, and located squarely on State Route 10. We do have a fully functional United States Post Office and our ZIP Code is 24733. This is an "unincorporated" town meaning there is no central village government body (aka no parking meters!!!). We have 0 (zero) stop lights and a few stop signs from side roads. Being as Lashmeet is about 1.5 miles in "city limit" to "city limit" and that it is a nearly perfectly straight stretch of state highway it used to be a popular drag racing spot (not so much now-a-days though). There are 4 churches within the limits and two mom-and-pop markets (only one sells gasoline). The county long ago closed the elementary school.
I've never found a written history of how Lashmeet earned that name, though I've heard suggestions that the Shawnee indian tribe used to use the ridge above Lashmeet to tie off (lash) and cure meat and skins from hunting kills. This has been, to my ear, the most plausible explanation for this name--and was told to me by a life-long resident who was well into her 90's.
As for the gene pool, I would comment, but I've pretty much lived in Lashmeet all my life so all I'd be doing is denigrating my own non-forking family tree. So I'll just leave that one alone.
