This is probably a dumb question, but is it possible for the furkids to get sprains? I noticed yesterday, when I was getting Lilu to sit down, that she yelped in pain. I immediately noticed that she didn't want to put pressure on her leg, so I picked her up and palpitated around to see if there were any sensitive areas....nothing...she didn't show any signs of pain when I felt her leg up and down. I helped her stretch her leg out...still no sign of pain, then bent it as if she was bending it for a sit position, and she yelped when her leg was close to her body. My fiance says that she may have just sprained something because she does tend to play rough with our yorkie. She walks fine on it, she still gets up on her hind legs when she wants attention(weird)...and even layed down on the side where she showed pain....and even squatted normally to pee. So now I'm confused as to what could be wrong with her. I'm sure that if she did break it jumping off her dog steps or the couch that there would be definite signs of pain and limping. Any ideas?

I suspect that dogs can get sprains just like people. Kallie fell off our bed and she was limping......thought for sure that she had broken it but I looked really good at it and felt it and nothing. Then I thought maybe it aggrevated her Luxating Patella............by evening the same day, she was fine and running so it had to be a temporary thing with her. I would keep an eye on her and may sure she is ok and nothing more serious is wrong. If it doesn't get better in a few days, you may need to take her into the vet for check.

I hope she is ok and doing fine real soon!!!

I would think they can also. Nemo has gotten hurt once or twice and then seems fine a day or two later.
I hope your baby feels better soon:(

Thanks for the advice....I am definitely keeping an eye on her. She seemed perfectly fine this morning when she squatted down to pee. It's amazing how resilient these little dogs can be. Hopefully she just pulled something or maybe got a little bruise from all the playing she does with Buddy.

Im sure they can pull and strain muscles just like we can. Remember too that dogs cover pain well. She may be limping and not whining but things could be alot worse than shes making them out to be. But I think just keep an eye on her and shell be ok..

So we have been keeping an eye on Lilu...still doing perfectly fine. Then my fiance noticed a little bump on her right side last night.Silly us... I realized right away what the whole problem was...it was her rabies shot she just had last week. The soft bump was from the injection, and her pain was the tenderness that she was still experiencing from the shot. To make sure I was right I called the vet..and sure enough, that was the reason for her slight pain. I'm a relatively new mom to my furkids, so I'm still learning the ropes. Thank goodness it was nothing serious. :o
Next step....her spay in 2 weeks. I'm going to really prepare myself for this so that I know what to expect afterwards....I tend to worry a lot about my pups!!:confuse2:
