The Food and Drug Admin. approved the drug, Cerenia, to treat or prevent vomiting that results from motion sickness and other causes.
The drug will be availabe this summer and you must have a prescription from your vet to get it.
The pill can prevent motion sickness if it's given before a trip. It begins to work within one hour after taken. Cerenia is given only once a day.
Some possible side effets are: excessive salivation and muscle tremors.
The dog should be at least 16 weeks old.

The drug is made by Pfizer Animal Health, and was approved by the Food and Drug Administration. I'm sure if we went on line and checked out the company they have the info. I think the FDA requires testing with proven evidence, but it didn't say how long they tested this one in the newspaper.

Posh gets car sick even on short trips. We have tried tons of things like rescue remedy, happy travelers, dramamine, etc. and nothing worked. My vet gave us some cerenia for our trip to VA and Posh did not get sick! She was full of energy and alert when we got there after being in the car for 3.5 hours. She still drooled alot but no puke.

there are two types of this drug - one is for motion sickness which is for car rides and it is a higher dose and the other dose is less and is for anti-vomitting. It is being used for pancreatitis as well. It is safe to give if going under anesthesia as well. My dex has a prescription for motion sickness so i checked it out thoroughly and we are going to use it to get him to the bc dentist for his dental this month

Perfect timimg for this post you guys. I will be giving Cerena to Abbie tomrrow morning for the first time. I got it last week when I tool Zoe in for her check up.
The only thing was the weird were the insructions. The process starts 3 hours before you leave (which will be hard since we are leaving at 7 am). That means we would have to feed here at 4 am (which will be a challenge anyway because we free feed both girls), wait two hours and give her the meds at 6 am and leave an hour later. I think the 1 hour before traveling thing is the most important part, right?
I asked if this would make her sleepy (because if I ever take something like that it really knocks me out) and they said that is not the case with this medication. I wonder which one they gave me...I think it is anti vomiting, not for motion sickness. It is 16 mg and I give her half a tablet.
Glad to hear this has worked and I hope it does for my Abbie tomorrow.

No side affects! She was nice and full of energy as soon as we got out of the car! She ate dinner with not problems that day. We had to give her the pill 2 hours before we left and then feed her 1 hour before we left.
I hope it works for Abbie! Let us know how it goes and have a safe trip!

First car trip ever without Abbie vomitting!! Highly recommend this medicine you guys. Abbie did have the shakes the first hour or so of the trip but I don't know if it was the meds or just her nerves.
I am so happy this works.
