Wow!
What a warm welcome from you all! I hesitated to join this forum for 1 teeny tiny little reason: My Ceiba is...well...not purebred. (Gasp!) She is a little Maltese/Yorkie mix and I love her to bits! I wasn't (still am not!) sure how you all would receive us. Hope you don't mind a 1/2 Maltese around here! (If so, please let me know!!)

Thank you all so much for the warm welcome! I have been reading some of the threads and finally decided to join, albeit with some hesitation. You see, my Ceiba (SAY-buh) isn't purebred (gasp!) - she's a Maltese/Yorkie mix from purebred parents.
***Please let me know if that's ok with everyone or if I need to go off and make my own Yorktese/Morkie/Malkie or whatever board. :D ***

Oh my gosh your Ceiba is soo cute! I love the pics!! Oh and it doesn't matter if Ceiba is a purebreed or not. We don't care here, we love everyone. Tons of people have mixes here and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that at all! I love the pics of your Ceiba. Absolutely precious!! Keep posting and we are soo glad you joined and are posting. Can't wait to get to know you more:D

Anyway, thanks again for the welcome here. Ceiba (pronounced SAY-buh) will be exactly 3 months old tomorrow. For her birthday, she is getting SHOTS! (eww!) She is getting her Rabies and Kennel Cough shots at the vets.
I am reading all the posts and am amazed at how kind and encouraging everyone here seems! I am happy that my little Ceiba won't be disciminated against! :) I have tons of questions, so you'll be seeing me around more often!
PS - Maybe I should also join Yorkie Talk, huh? :)

Quite a few of us have Yorkies and Maltese here, so ask all the questions you want to. We'll try to help as much as we can. Don't worry about the double post, it happens. Let us know how her vet visit goes. Do you know how much Ceiba weighs now?

I took Ceiba to the vet the day after I picked her up (she was 8.5 wks and 1.8lbs on Feb 10). I haven't a clue what she weighs nowadays, but I will find out tomorrow. I am betting she is probably up to 3lbs now - she's a good eater!
Her mommy was a 4-4.5lb Maltese and her daddy was a 2.5-3lb Yorkie, so I'm thinking she shouldn't really top the 4lb range. Her human Daddy wanted a bigger, manlier dog at first, but I (more than) insisted on Ceiba - I was already in loooooove! Now that Ceiba is home, she is TOTALLY a daddy's girl! So funny to see a grown 6'3, 230lb man with this teeny little dog! heehee

What does Ceiba's name mean?

Well, nice to meet you MaxJack'sMom! Please do add Ceiba to the birthday calendar! Her real bday is December 13, 2006, but we will celebrate it on my bday which is December 12th! :)
And as far as what Ceiba's name means:
It's actually short for the city of 'La Ceiba' in Honduras (Central America). My family is from Honduras and I liked the name. I wanted something unique and that meant something and that's what we came up with. I maybe should have thought it out a bit more b/c I guess it IS hard to determine how to pronounce! :) Oh, and if you dig further, the city of La Ceiba was named after a Ceiba tree near the town docks. Beautiful place, beautiful beaches!

*8.5 oz - 2wks 1 day
*1.2 lbs - 6wks
*2lbs - 8wks, 3 days

Mom is a Maltese - 4 - 4.5 lbs
Dad is a Yorkie - 2.5 - 3 lbs

Anyone care to guesstimate what her adult weight will be? ;)
