Hello all,

My 9 month old, female Maltese Bella was diagnosed with Fractured Coronoid Process (FCP) yesterday. We are waiting on a orthopedic surgeon to look at the x-rays to be sure but this does not sound like good news.

I have done a bit of research and this only seems to happen in large breed dogs. has anyone heard of this in Maltese? She started limping on her front left leg from time to time and we thought we better check it out.

The definition of FCP is this: The 3 bones of the elbow joint fit poorly, causing abnormal pressure on the ulna
A small piece of bone associated with the ulna in the front of the joint (coronoid process) breaks off.

It happens in front legs of dogs not back legs like Luxating Patella.

My concern is she is getting misdiagnosed. Anyone had this happen to thier Maltese?

Thanks,

just make sure you are dealing with a board certified orthopedic surgeon

http://www.acvs.org/

list of surgeons and you only search by state only as search engine will not work otherwise. There are many orthopedics that are not board certified - only deal with board certified

Hi.........so sorry to hear about your little maltese having leg issues. I personally have never heard of it but it sounds very painful. I guess if you want to be extra sure that this is what is her problem, then getting a second opinion would be something to think about.........just be sure you get the x-rays from the first vet to take with you so spare the expense of having to redo x-rays with another vet.
