Ahh the butter Mararine debate.well it is better to use neither if the truth be told. Fat is fat but a monsturated fat is better such as olive oil. Don't get me wrong there is nothing better than butterfor taste, It depends on how puritanical you want to be. I shouldn't have any butter (but I do sometimes) Margarines are processed and even the healthy ones even though they are "better" are still not great. There is a great book called "live in the Balance" by Linda Prout, she talks about Chinese Traditional medicine and diet. it makes total sense. (right now i have been a bit"bad" but usually I don't have either. It is easier than one would think to stop eating either one. I use tons of olive oil. I have learned how to make substitutions, quite easy and delish.(did you get the veggie pepper or try the Arugela?
Just curious and hope this epic answer helps:wink5:

um...I am determined to make homemade bread.....flour, yeast, little salt and water right? I can get it to rise the first time...but after I punch it down and shape it into a loaf and put it in the loaf pan, it won't rise again....whats up?
You did say ask anything right? :-)

Well I only use olive oil in cooking/salads but I was thinking about butter for use on corn, veggies, toast, etc. I was told by a friend that butter is much better for you than margarine and I thought it was the other way around. :( But I do use both. I sometimes use butter for cooking/baking. I have not found the arugela and I haven't been to the health food store for the veggie pepper yet.............YET!:wink5::wink5:

Sorry to disappoint you about the domestic diva..........I really don't eat a lot of bread and when I do it is the 12 grain! Ok, so out goes the margarine and we will start using the butter and if I become a butterball, I know who to blame. Y O U ! ! ! ! ! ! :tounge::tounge:

What temp is the water? The water should be on the warmer side of luke warm (don't have the exact temp in front of me) When I make pizza dough I add a little sugr and that makes the yeast "grow". Usually I start off woth icup water to 1 pk of yeast with a Tbls sugar in it.. Wait 15 mins then add you flour graduallywith the salt etc. see if that helps:wink5:

You will love it when you do!!! Yes I agree butter is better in that is is a natural ingredient, but the oil is still better and I use it to roast veggies in the oven etc. I find once I start with the butter I can't stop especially the salty kind, and organic butter is very clean tasting. For me DANGEROUS!!!:awink:

I just guess at the water....don't have a thermometer...but I am pretty sure the temp is good. I didn't even consider the sugar....I will try that.
Oh and I have a bread machine...but dang it, I just want to make ONE loaf of bread that comes out right....and some of those boxes of bread can be pricey ya know? I am trying to be economical...LOL

I do mostly savory things and not an expert baker but baking has more to do with chemistry than "recipies" which is why they are called formulas. The temp of the water should be very warm is the best way to put it but not so warm that you can't test it with your finger. The great part ;)about homemade baking is that it is not supposed to look perfect and there is a degree of trial and error. Bread takes a bit of practice I rarely make it.,although I make a lot of doughs and such.: I stick to the savories. I think you should have a friend over, pop open a bottle of wine and have some fun baking:D:D:D:D what do you usually enjoy baking?

Okay, this is a highly sought after recipe that I don't give out freely. You all should feel honored.....I want presents in return....LOL....trust me, you will be sending them to me afte the reactions you get from the cake....:-)
Butterfinger Cake
1 box yellow or butter cake mix (get the moist kind)
1 can condensed milk
bunch of Butterfingers (I hit them with a hammer to crush them all up into tiny pieces)
1 tub of Cool Whip
Bake cake according to package directions. As soon as you pull it out of the oven, poke holes all over the top with a fork. Go almost all the way to the bottom. Pour the canned milk over the top. Refrigerate for 2 or more hours. The longer it is refrigerated, the better.
Pull it out of the fridge, sprinkle your crushed candy bars and top with cool whip. I don't recommend FF cool whip. It doesn't spread well.
Voila! Let the marriage proposals begin!!

I love Bourbon Chicken. The one at the Mall in the food court.
I have found clone recipes, but none come close to the real thing.
I would love to make this at home.
So there you go!! My request!!

Jess, I've never tried that one but I make a similar one called "Better than Sex Cake" I use a deep chocolate cake mix. Bake and poke holes in it and I poor a jar of Mrs Richardsons Caramel sauce over the cake then the can of cond. milk. refrigerate then spread with Cool Whip and sprinkle a pkg. of cruched up Health candy bars over the top and serve. It may not be better than sex, but it sure comes close:lol2::lol2:

It's the kind of caramel sauce you use on ice cream so most stores should have it or some caramel sauce like it. I see that late at night I can't spell either. I meant Heath candy bar bits. You can usually buy them already smashed up in the baking isle.
