Hi!! I just found out I am expecting a baby next May and am very concerned with how Mollie is going to react considering how protective she is of me. She wont even let my husband get near me sometimes. Has anyone gone through this and is there anything anyone suggest starting now so by the time the baby comes she will be more ok. Her vet suggested getting her spayed because she said that should calm her down alot. Thanks Sara&Mollie

Congratulations!! New babies are pretty exciting! I'm not sure about how to get Mollie to adjust to the baby but regardless, I would definitely say to go ahead with the spaying, for Mollie's health...

Congrads on the news of the baby!!!

Let Mollie be part of the set up process. When you get things for the baby let Mollie see and smell them. Let her get her scent on them. When you are resting, reading or listening to music, let Mollie rest next to you.
When you go to the hospital try and get a blanket that the baby was wrapped in and have your husband bring it home to let Mollie sniff the baby's scent. When you bring the baby home let Mollie meet her/him but always keep the baby in your eye's sight and not on the floor. Things close to the floor are in the dogs realm of ownership and might think they can get really close.
You just might be surprised, Mollie just might be a great babysitter.
Good luck.

Don't treat Mollie differently. Make time for her too. If she is interested in the baby let her smell her, lick her (always under your supervision). When you feed the baby and Mollie wants to lay next to you, let her. The point is not to make Mollie Jaleous. She can be a great gardian for the baby.

Hi and congrats on the expecting baby. First of all I would have Mollie spayed, second thing I would be doing is putting her in her place. There is no way I would tolerate any of my fluffs carrying on and not letting my husband or children come near me, that is terrible behaviour and when she acts this way, I suppose you both find it funny and cute?, sorry but that is terrible. If one of mine did something like that I would correct them (clap my hands and give the NO command) and most likely remove them from the room for a few minutes and would continue to do that everytime they behaved that way.
You and your husband are the ALHPA's in the home, NOT Mollie and she needs to know that way before you bring a baby into your home.

All the best

Let Mollie be a part of the baby while he/she is in your tummy :p I would buy a doll and go through the motions of taking care of it and let Mollie see what it's going to be like, see how she reacts. I agree that you need to make Mollie see she is not the alpha, you are.
I wish you the best of luck at this joyous time :hearter:

:goodpost: and

CONGRATULATIONS!!

I think everything Cheryl said is great great great!! I've always felt that dogs know and can sense you are pregnant. I think Mollie will realize that you are having a baby and be happy for you, but could also be jealous if you push her out, so let her be a part of everything.

Also having Mollie spayed will be the best thing for her and your future family.
Best Wishes!!

Thanks MaxJacks Mom.. That was really helpful. I am going to try that. I have babysat since Mollie joined my home and she always LOVES the babys. She just tries to give them kisses and sleep on them LOL so I think she will do good, I am just worried about her feeling left out, but I am going to do like everyone said and include her in the entire process. And thanks everyone for the congrats I am so excited.. I am actually on my way to the doctor for my first appointment now. Than I am going to make Mollie a appointment for her spaying. Is it true Dogs gain weight after being spayed?

A dog can gain weight at anytime. But no spaying has nothing to do with it. AS LONG as you keep her normal diet and exercise she will be just as normal as before you get her spayed
