Do you think its possible to engrave on the back of a rabies tag??
Mitzy carries 3 tags on her collar (when she has it on): her rabies, avid chip, and info tag
I find it a bit much for her to carry and was thinking today what if I had the back of her rabies tag engraved with my information so I can take her info tag off?? Do you think that is legal?? If so, where do you think I could get it done??

I would call the place that issued the rabies tag and ask. My rabies tag has a license number on the front and the dog pounds number, addy, ph. number on the back.

I have three tags on mine as well. The license which is very very light, then the microchip tag which is soft plastic and then I bought a lightweight tag that I have information on the front and back. It is not heavy at all! Got it from boomerang tags.com

Well, I have no control over what they put on it but glad they have all that on there. And of course on the ID tag I bought there is a lot of information: On the front, I have the fluff's name, hubby's name, address (house number, street, city, State), cell phone(area code included). On the back I have the fluff's name, my name, complete address and my home phone and my cell phone. It is very very lightweight!!!!

Our's is like Carol's. Info on front and back... County info on one side and Vet info on other side. Plus it's cheapy looking to me, and every dog gets the same size tag. Up in Palm Beach, they have two sizes of tags, and I loved that.

Here we don't have Rabies so no tag, and we only have the council registration tag and on it is just there council ID number. I have their own tags with their name on the front and my mobile number on the back. So two tags is what we have here. No such think as a microchip tag here.

I'd had similar thoughts Jess. But here in Tallahassee, FL both sides of our tags are engraved, so no luck using it as a regular tag too. Only Zoe's so small I was trying to see if I could take all her rabbies tag info on to something smaller. In the end I never got a definitive answer but wasn't ever able to find a tag I could engrave on 2 sides that'd fit all the info on and be a tag small enough that'd work for the little 5.5 pound Zoe.

In the end, since the law states that if a dog is kept restrained/on private property they don't need the tag on them I never put her rabbies tag on her! I have it and the paperwork easily accessible, but just not on her harness. The end of this month she gets a new one, maybe it'll have less info and/or be smaller. I complained to my vet that it's a shame they only make one size tag. Clearly it doesn't work as well for a 5 pounder as it would for a great dane!

I feel the same way Vicky.. Its just to big for her to carry plus 2 other tags.. Are you allowed to put rabies info on another tag if it wasnt issued by the vet??

I get double sided tags for Mitzy off Ebay all the time..Their small and are printed on both sides. So if I am able to transfer rabies info to another tag I might do that!! I get the double sided tags for when we travel she has a tag for every place we visit: my parents and my husbands parents live in the same area so for that tag we have one address and info on one side and the other familys info on the other side, then we have my sisters place, his grandparents and my cousins :lol2: we like to take precaution :tounge:
