Does anyone use this product??

I am in the market for a new flea preventative. As much as I love Comfortis its not doing its job as Mitzy has fleas again :( I just don't get it. She's gone all summer without a problem and now BAM fleas! I can't afford to treat the house EVERY time she gets fleas only for her prevention to fail and I have to treat the house again. Our vet recommended awhile ago that we start giving the Comfortis every 3 weeks so we did. And it worked for a few months but now we have fleas again. I'm so confused too because our cat and other dog DOESN'T get them!! Only Mitzy.. maybe because she has hair?? I don't know. SO I am looking at the product Sentinel because its a tablet that prevents fleas AND heartworm. I just won't do the liquid prevention anymore, it makes her SO sick :( So I'm thinking this is my last option..

Let me know what you guys know about the product or if you've heard anything good or bad about it. TIA!! ;)

Jess, I never use flea prevention stuff except for the one time I used a topical and all three girls were affected by their skin turning very red and they scratched it horribly until I washed it off. I have my yard treated for insects (including fleas/ticks) every six weeks and that seems to keep things under control plus they rarely go into public places where other dogs have been except when we travel. And I think that has helped as well. Hopefull someone can provide you with some ideas as to what you can try.

Poor Mitzy!!!:(:(

Yes I use Sentinel as Sassy's heartworm med. but Jess it doesn't prevent fleas, it sterilizes fleas so they can't reproduce. If a flea gets on your fluff and bites them it would live out its life cycle but it could not reproduce. Sassy doesn't go outside so the flea protection isn't a hugh issue with me. If we are ever having company and I suspect Sassy could pick up a flea I give her a Comfortis. The Sentinel also protects from other intestinal parasites. It is the only heartworm preventive that we have ever used. I like it because it comes in a dosage that is nearer to her weight. The Sentinel is 2--10 lbs. I don't have to give her a med. designed for a larger dog. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much Pat :) I didn't know that it doesn't kill the adult fleas!! I think I will put her on the Sentinel for heartworm then and keep her on the Comfortis.. Do the Sentinel the first of the month and the Comfortis 2 weeks later like I'm doing now and just change her heartworm to the Sentinel. I do like that the Sentinel at least helps stop the flea cycle. I can't wait until fleas become extinct :tounge:

Yes Jess, with the Sentinel at least the fleas do die at the end of the life cycle and can't reproduce. We have never had a problem with fleas in the house.

sorry to hear that Jess.
Its always frustration trying to find new products to fight fleas.

We have been off medications since I found Neem products.
I am very happy with this products.

Frontline SPRAY is very good. I don't like their spot treatments but the spray is very affective. You could use it along with your Comfortis, just do the comfortis and then 2wks later do the spray and keep the pattern going.

To kill the fleas NOW give her a capstar tablet and then give her another one in two days time and then another one in another 2days and that should do the trick. Capstar kills adult fleas in about 30minutes and then you give two more tablets over the next four days to kill any hatched eggs. Capstar KILLS fleas but isn't a prevention and it works EXCELLENT.

All the best Jess

I tried a Neem spray one time and I wasn't to happy. I liked it becauase it was natural but fleas just laughed in my face when we used all natural products :tounge:

Thanks Bek. I feel like I do EVERYTHING there is to do to fight fleas but they always come back. I vaccuum every other day, our landlord sprays the yard and house every month and I pay extra for them to spray for fleas. Its been months since we've had any to and I thought we were in the clear but nope :( I always have capstar pills on hand for when I find fleas or we go out where other animals are going to be. So if she picks any up when were out they are dead by the time we get home. Im real iffy about Frontline products as the topical made Mitzy SO sick she was throwing up for a few days but I will pick a bottle up if it will help

The topical is rubbish, I personally don't like it and know of alot of dogs that have had reactions to it.
Buy the small bottle of spray so you won't be out of pocket to much if she has a reaction, I don't know of any dogs that have had a reaction to the spray and with Cassy-Ann's sensitive skin it doesn't cause a reaction with her. All I can is just give it ago, thats all you can do. Keep the capstar pills up at the moment.
Babe even though your treating your yard, it is other peoples yards when you take Mitzy for walks etc.
Hope you have it under control ASAP for Mitzy's sake and your peace of mind.

Neem is good. I am sure glad we don't need anything here.

EWWIE FLEAS!

Sir Micro has been on Frontline about 7 months of the year since we got him, no negitive reaction what so ever and no fleas ever.

Mr Wookie and Glory Girl are on Sentinel. NO fleas.

We will see once the dog park opens if things change... because of now, they really are not in areas where other dogs hang out hardly ever.

GOOD LUCK!
