your probably going to ask me, what does she bark at? airplanes, leaves blowing, shadows (big one), skateboarders, people, wind in trees, squirrels, noises, cars, you name it lolol. I have tried the squirt bottle with water, that works if I can be out with her all the time. I also use "QUIET" as her word for this. She doesn't seem to care much about the word lol. HELP!!!:blush:

Well I'm still training my girl but hope this helps. I have a bottle spray full of water and every time she goes on her barking spree I spray her mouth and say quiet. When she quiet down I give her a treat and say good girl. If no treats are nearby she get a belly rub.

Hmm, well they talk about some apple spray. I can't remember what they call it. I also think you need to get your puppy use to people and dogs. Youtube has training videos you might want to check out.

Maybe you can try keeping her busy outside. Teach her a few tricks, play with her, give her a new toy, etc. My 2 don't see much to bark at outside, unless a stray cat passes by or a squirrel comes out of a tree. Hannah is the worse offender, but I let her do her thing. But if she just stood outside & barked at everything just to be barking,it would get on my nerves. I try to let them both do some barking as long as it's not obsessive. Boo likes to stand on the backporch at night sometimes & bark along with my neighbors dogs. It only lasts about 5 mins.or less. They bark,he barks. He's enjoying himself & nobody complains.

I've heard carrying an empty coke can with pennies or rocks in it to make a loud noise when they bark works. My friends did that with their dogs that had this barking issue when they would come home......did it several times and now they don't do it anymore. She said if they forget, all she has to do is reach for the coke can by the door and the barking stops asap.
I have trained mine with the "NO BARKING" command and it has worked with mine inside but a little harder when we are outside. Just being consistant in their training, patience and persistance will pay off..........Oh and of course don't forget "REWARDS" for being obedient whether it is a treat or just vocal/physical reward.

Does she know the "look at me" command? This might help distract her from whatever she is barking about, just long enough for you to get her focused on something else more interesting to her.
GOOD LUCK!

thanks everyone for your responses. I will try the coke can with pennies inside. I haven't tried that yet. The water bottle works as long as I am within reach of her and can squirt her in the sides. I am afraid of that in winter though- I don't want to make her cold and then get sick :( Something will work, I will keep trying lol. She is a bit of a free spirit sometimes, other times very dependent LOL. But, I know she is learning and she does try to please us. I reward her all the time for things with treats and ALOT of praise. thanks again... I will let you know if we make any head way.

My Gracie is the same way - she barks constantly when she's outside...we have a privacy fence on 2 sides and the back fence is a picket fence, it's just a few trees and then a big empty field behind that. Leaves, shadows, sticks...a few weeks ago I dumped a big clump of potting soil and a plant out on the ground, she barked at that for days until hubby leveled out when he mowed.

I am working on teaching Mizty the command "speak". I know it sounds silly but if I can teach her to "speak" I can teach her "NO speak". ;) Ahh?? :D She is a barker too (probably the terrier in her) and it can be annoying

Well there are others out there, I thought I was the only one who had barkers, lol. I know it can be very annoying mine will bark at anything out of place, just tonight Oscar was barking in the back entry, so I thought he wanted out so I went to check it out and he was barking at an empty milk jug sitting on the ledge by the back entry. Yes I think it is the terrier in them as well.

Vincent has joined the ranks of the barking for no reason. I am trying to teach him the 'no bark', sometimes it works, other times he just stands in front of me and barks away! Yes it can be annoying. Especially when I am on the telephone. But I am going to keep up the training... he is a smart little guy, sooner or later it will kick in! The water bottle doesn't faze him. Haven't tried the coins in a can. Thats next!

I have also been told to do this....teach her the "look at me command," and when she does, immediately reward with a high value treat, like cooked chicken. Once she learns the command, if she gets distracted and starts barking, use the "look at me command," give chicken or something else she doesn't normally get to distract her, and she "should" learn that seeing these other things aren't bad - she gets a wonderful treat when she looks at mommy :awink:
I hope this helps, as I am starting to work on it now, :lol2::lol2::lol2:
You let me know how you make out, and I'll let you know how I make out :p
Good luck!

I just read a similar threat on YT about barking and saw this new and interesting suggestion which may be worth a try:

hahaha! you all are too funny. I enjoy your stories so much. Thanks for all the advice and entertaining comments haha! I will keep you updated on how things are going around here. She has started the "bull kicks" where she throws up grass (HAHA!) It is hilarious! She goes side to side, not like most dogs just kick the grass to the back. It is almost too cute to correct. Thanks again... Dee

I am happy to announce that most of the non-stop barking has come to a halt. I heard that when you yell at them to "be quiet" they might be mis-interputing it as your chimming in with them lol... So we quit that and went out with her to keep her distracted and it has worked... Praise the lord! And... More great news, she is just about 100% potty trained... Whohooo!!!! Go daisy, go daisy ;-)
