During my research I came accross this wonderful forumn (I love the Internet) and am put at ease by how much wonderful information is being offered by you wonderful people! All for FREE! Thank you all...I'm sure you will be hearing from me and my Penny a lot in our journey starting this SUNDAY! WooHoo! :o Any recommendations / suggestins for the new mom will be greatly appreciated! How do I make her transition as smooth and comfy as possible?
A lil FYI: She will be exactly 8 weeks old when I get her. I am getting her from a loving and knowledgeable breeder in Lancastger, CA. I have been waiting for this for a long time:) Any help would be appreciated...I'm a 1st time Maltese owner and would love to do the job right!

WELCOME TO MALTESE TALK MARY AND PENNY
And Congratulations on the new baby!! How exciting!! I am so glad you found us so we can help you out as best we can :) We've all been there as new "mommies" and any knowledge that we can share amongst each other is helpful.
When Penny gets home I would be sure to have a crate and bed for her (so she has a place to call her own) and some toys, maybe something that smells like her mother and litter mates too so she has some comforts from her first home. Maybe a blanket that has her moms scent on it that you can put in her crate?? Also since your Penny will be very young it would be handy to have some nutrical or honey on hand in case she starts to have signs of hypoglycemia. Other than that just have fun with her and ENJOY this time you have as a puppy with her!! They are so loving and some bond very quickly but some take time.

Hi JesBred thank you for the valuable tips and it's very nice to meet you :) I just got back from Petco and bought her a puppy bed with blanky, a cozy warm throw, food/water dish, some treats (for puppies) some toys, weewee pads/holder a pin brush and some Solid Gold food...I have to get back to get her more stuff like a play pen area, tear free shampoo (Any recommendations on a good shampoo that will keep her fur super white, soft and pretty?), some shine and conditioning oil for those pesky tangles, some lil wipies and a carrying case. I know I'm forgettig something here :o Also I was concerened about tear stain on this breed since it's coat is super white I can see how it can stain very easily, I heard about this product called Angel Eyes....Is this any good? Also I hear that giving them purified water on ceramic OR stainless steel bowls will do the trick....
Thanks again...Now that I'm getting her little aread nice and ready I am getting super excited! I feel like I am having a baby! Well in many ways I AM :awink:

Hi Mary,
Welcome to Maltese Talk! I am so happy you joined and I can tell how excited you are about Penny :hearter: Everyone here is sooo nice and helpful, you will love it here! I just have one thing to say that 8 weeks is a bit young to get Penny. Is there a reason the breeder isn't keeping her till 12 weeks?
I hope to get to know you and meet your beautiful Penny.
Good Luck :mtwelcome::heartsenv::goodluck::welcome:

I agree with this, 8 weeks is too young to be placing a puppy in a new home. I have a litter of 9 week old puppies right now and I cannot even imagine them going to a new home. I'd be a nervous wreck!! They aren't even weaned yet (although that is the mom's fault, she doesn't want to give them up) The American Maltese Association Code of Ethics dictate that puppies are kept until 12 weeks old, so maybe you can ask the breeder to hang onto the pup until that time? I know you probably just want her now though! (been there, done that, LOL)
One of the things you need to watch out for is the dreaded 'poopy butt'. It can act as a plug so if your puppy has poop glomped onto the rear, rinse it off with warm water. Also, your puppy will be not be vaccinated, so make sure she isnt' set down outside because parvo can be potentially lethal.
Let me know if you have any more questions! I live in california also (central valley) but grew up in the South Bay (Palos Verdes) I'll be down in so cal two weekends in a row in december for dog shows. One is in Costa Mesa and the other is Long Beach, I'm showing one of my malts at Eukanuba.
Welcome to the site! I don't post as much as i should but i am a big lurker. :wink5:

I didn't get a chance to answer these questions! At 8 weeks, she shouldn't need too many baths and she shouldnt' need a whitening shampoo. I like Biogroom Superwhite though and when I give a puppy a bath, I make sure the shampoo/conditioner I'm using is safe for puppies. I like Nature's Specialties. Hold off on some of the items you purchase at Petco/Petsmart. i wasted a lot of money by buying what i thought I needed there, but now I can count on one hand the things I buy from either of those places. If you bought a pin brush with balls on the end, I wouldn't use it on your pup. I like Madan brushes or Chris Christensen pin brushes. I have a bunch of brushes i bought at petsmart when I got my first malt and they are just collecting dust, LOL.
Don't use Angel Eyes until the permanent teeth are in at around 6 mos but it is a good product to use if you have problem tearing. Some pups just stain more than others.
do you know how much your little baby weighs? Do you know what food her breeder has her on?

Hi and welcome to MT!
Congratulations!:)
I am so happy you are getting a Maltese. They are the best: I have 5 myself....they are very addictive!:D
I agree with Stacey's post about your babe's age! You will have to be really careful that she eats properly, lots of small meals rather than 2 big ones.
And what Stacey says about shampoo, brushes and stuff that you want to buy at Petco or other pet store. I did that when I got my first baby and, yes, I do have a cupboard full of stuff that now that I know better, I will never use on my fluffs.
May I suggest that you check the grooming section here on MT, I know that I have learned a lot by reading it!
And, again, Congratulation on your fluff and WELCOME TO MT!:D

HELLO MARY AND WELCOME TO MALTESE TALK!!!!!!!!!!!
So glad to have you on the forum and look foward to seeing LilPenny grow and hear about all the joys she is bringing into your life.
Pretty much everyone has covered the questions you asked and I do agree that she seems a bit young to be leaving the nest as there are another four good weeks she will be learning manners and other necessary things that a mommy fluff teaches the pups as well as interreacting with her siblings. But if the breeder insists you take her, not much you can do but be prepared for things. The angel eyes or any other antibiotic is a no no at this time as it causes damage to the permanent teeth she will be getting at around six or seven months.
I hope everything works out great for you.............and I bet you won't be able to just live with one! LOL I have three maltese and a yorkie. Maltese are sooooooo addicting!
We all love pictures so please post when you get some of your little sweetie and CONGRATULATIONS on your new addition to your family. Prepare youself to be wrapped around her little paw in a short few days!:hearter:

Hi and Welcome glad you join in. My breeder told me when I got my baby to keep her in her crate for the first few day's until she felt at ease. He told me not to bath her until I had her for two weeks but I did get her a little older then 8 weeks. Ask them what food he/she has them on so her diet won't complicate tummy. My pup was a quiet shy little girl for the first few days. But after that she was ready to play and bite my heels. :D

Welcome to MT! I'm sure you will love it here and get lots of great help fast.
I bought my female Maltese at 2 months and three weeks (which was still a little early the breeder said, but I was so excited :hearter:).
Like others have said, you will want to feed Penny the same food she is currently eating at the breeder's.
Some things I learned when I was a nervous pre-mommy...have a crate that is big enough for her to stand up and move, but not too big where she can go potty in the back. Her crate should be a happy place! It should have teething toys and other ones that are her favorites. I bought Nylabones for Chloe at PetSmart (the blue one with the bumps on it is great for teething) and was her favorite and helped her a lot. Penny will want to chew on everything, so the Nylabone is plastic and great for teething. Also puppy-proof your house - move the electrical cords out of chewing's reach.
I also fed Chloe three meals a day, and it's great to set up a time schedule for when she eats, goes potty, goes to bed, has play time, has crate time, etc.
I bought a video about what to do when you get a puppy and it had a section about crate training. It taught to make it nice and cozy in there (with a comfortable and soft bottom), keep the crate door open, have some very small treats, and lure Penny into the crate with a line of treats going into the crate so she will go in there. It's also great to say "go to your crate" or just "crate" so she will associate the word with the action. Leave the door open, repeat previous steps a few times, then close the door a little for a few seconds, and open it. Work your way to closing the crate until she lays down is not nervous. I hope that helps :)
I also recommend getting a fine-tooth comb with a comfort handle for working on mats when she does get them. She shouldn't until she's a little older, depending on her coat type. I love the Madan brush, too - one of our members sells them - her name is mimimomo.
Feel free to contact me if you want to talk "puppies" :awink:
Oh, and definitely don't let her outside until she has her vaccines, like other's said. I had Chloe on pads for a long time, but then I taught her to go outside.
I also have a great link for teaching tricks when she's a little older that has really worked with Chloe - Malts are soooo smart and fun!
We want LOTS of pictures, please :maltese1:

Welcome to MT. I'm sure you are super excited to bring Penny home, but I would also double check with the breeder why she is ok with sending the puppy home so early. Bigger breed puppies can go home at that age but most breeders usually keep small breed puppies a bit longer, at lease 12 weeks form what I hear. How much does she weigh now?
They grow up so fast, and I know you are super excited to go all out and buy her everything, but she will grow out of clothes and harnesses very quickly. You might wanna consider borrowing some hand-me-downs for now. Especially a harness and sweaters. I have plenty, which I wish I could give them to you if we lived a bit closer :) I can always mail them to you if you want. You will love the cute little outfits and harnesses that my little girl (sushi, a little yorkie girl-Biggie's sister) cannot wear anymore :(
As far as angel eyes goes, I would be very hesitant. Please do your homework and make an educated decision. Angel Eyes has antobiotics in it. I was personally not comfortable with putting Biggie on antibiotics for cosmetic purposes. But it's your call.
There are wonderful people here. You will learn a lot like i did, and will have a ton of fun.
All we ask in return is puppy pictures and updates :)

Yes, the malt in my avatar is a show dog. Or she was. She is now a finished champion and the mom of the 9 week old puppies I mentioned. She is in a short haircut so doesn't quite look the same, LOL!
At the risk of ruining your excitement over your new puppy, if your breeder says that it's not necessary to keep your puppy until 12 weeks, I would recommend thinking twice about purchasing her. The truth is, in the US, no reputable maltese breeders lets their puppies go before 12 weeks old. In the UK and other places in the world, there is an accepted 8 or 10 week rule, but here in the US, the AMA says 12 weeks. So those don't follow the AMA Code of Ethics, typically fall into the category of not breeding to better the breed, but merely breeding for profit.
I hate even saying this because i know how excited you are, but I just felt like I had to caution you. When I got my first maltese, Lucy, I didn't know a thing about looking for a good breeder and almost got a maltipoo. I stumbled onto a show breeder close by me and came home with a beautifu maltese puppy (although I didnt' know how lucky i was at the time!) I had told myself I didn't care about champion lines because I just wanted a pet not a show dog, but now I see how nice it is to have a pet who looks like a show dog. She sparked a major obsession and now my 10 year old daughter shows this 'pet' in Junior Showmanship and they will be showing at the Eukanuba dog show in Long Beach in a few weeks.
Please feel free to pm or call me if you have any questions. I'm not trying to make you feel bad, I promise

I just got a reply from my breeder, here is what she said in response to the 8 week thing:
The only time I would consider keeping a puppy past 8 weeks is if it were a teacup. I do not breed for teacups because they are often not healthy. These puppies were weaned at 6 weeks. They do not see their mom after that. They will have an adjustment to make when they leave here regardless of their age, unless you take two of them. However, within a week, they will be fully adjusted. 6 to 14 weeks is the bonding time. It is better for them to bond with you.
What does everyone think of this?

Welcome! I'm sure that you're so excited about your new pup - I know that I was!! You've already gotten so much great advice from the others. The most important though is definitely the age - I've seen first hand (not my Emma - she was 12 weeks!) what can happen to a small breed pup when it's taken too soon to its new home and it's not pleasant for the new mommy or the puppy. Seizures are scary and so are trips to the emergency vet in the middle of the night! Once your baby is ready to come home though, I'd recommend spending as much time as possible during the transition. I picked Emma up on a Saturday and took the following week off work to help us both "adjust" - I'd gradually leave her alone a little bit at a time to get her used to things so that she wasn't just suddenly abandoned in a new place. As far as toys go, Nylabones and Kongs are lifesavers - they're still Emma's favorites and she's 10 months old now!

Honestly, Mary, that's pretty scary to me. I can't imagine a reputable breeder not keeping maltese pups past 8 weeks, and the fact that she even used the term "teacup" is frightening. I don't agree with what she says about bonding either - Emma was 12 weeks when I got her and by the second day home she was stuck to me like glue. If you don't mind my asking, how did you find her? Does she offer a health guarantee on her pups?

^ Yes she offers a 1 year gurantee and I found her online through a find a breeder site. So far she has answered all my questions and has put me at ease about a lot of things. She also has the mom and dad on site so I will get to meet them aswell. She seems to be there for her clients and keeps in touch with her past litters....I have agood vibe from her, but as I said I am not expert on the matter and that is why I come in here for guidance from experiacned people so I can get pointed in the right direction. I'm at a loss here.....Maybe I should go NAY on this...... :(

I'm curious, too. I have 5 cats (had a total of 7 through the years), and even the reputable breeders (including my Maltese breeder) ween them from their mother at 8 weeks, not 6. I don't mean to scare you, but I just want to make sure that your baby will be OK. I think I read that she is on solid dog food now? Ask your breeder how she is with eating, that's what I would do. I know how excited you are, just like I was, but even at 3 months, they are tiny! If you would like to have your breeder keep Penny for a while longer to socialize and learn how to play with other pups, she may want to charge you more, but I think it would be money well spent.
Again, I don't want to rain on your very happy parade, but I just want to make sure Penny is really ready to go to a new home :awink:
If you would like to know about the video with what to do when you get a new puppy, I don't need it anymore and can send it to you cheap :p It covers different things, but it is not very long. PM me if you are interested - it will teach you about the crate being "the happy place!"
Best of luck (and patience! LOL!)

I understand how you're feeling - I've been there! I waited months trying to find a maltese pup and in my desperation, I almost bought one against my better judgment. When I actually went to see the puppy, I then was told that she was only a little over 8 weeks old - warning bells started going off in my head. But I sooo wanted a puppy. So I agreed to buy her even though she was only going to be about 9 weeks old when I brought her home. The lady seemed to care about the pups but she just wasn't doing some things right as far as I was concerned. The night before I was supposed to pick the puppy up, she had started suffering from hypoglycemia and had to be rushed to the vet, who then said that the puppy under no circumstances should be taken home until it was at least 14 weeks. I was one day away from seizures and the emergency vet and goodness knows what else. I told the lady no thanks and ran. I was soooo disappointed to go home without a pup but on the other hand, I was super relieved. My mother's Yorkie pup was too young when she got her (it was the first small dog she'd had and she just didn't know) and had seizures, and it's just so scary. I went home, thought things through a little more clearly and realized that my gut instinct had been correct - I had known from the beginning that it wasn't a good situation but I let my excitement for a puppy cloud my better judgment. I re-started my puppy search and within days found Emma's breeder - I grilled her with every question I could think of and she gave all of the answers that I was looking for. I got pics of Em, who was about 6 weeks old at the time, fell in love instantly, waited 6 weeks to get her, and the rest is history! Long story short, if you have doubts, back away and regroup. Try to distance yourself from the excitement and make a decision that you feel completely comfortable with - this is a big commitment and you want to be sure that it's right!

I am SO sorry :( I just don't think she is reputable. She is giving you a 72 hour health contract. I got that with Nemo and he is from a pet store (Before I knew better) I am NOT saying she isn't a good person or loves her dogs but she isn't reputable in my honest opinion. It looks like she took 2 pets and just bred them to get the puppies  It's your decision ,but I wouldn't advise it..

:( Well I am saddened to hear that....I am located in Southern CA (Los Angeles) and would love to find a local breeder. I guess it doesn't matter that she offers a year gurantee on genetic problems huh? Wow I guess as much research as I have been doing, it doesn't seem like enough :( I still need to do my homework it seems. Well thanks for all the generouse info!

I agree that is sounds like she has pet quality dogs and throws them together to have puppies to sell for a profit. She probably does love her dogs but it does not make her a good breeder. Her mentality about selling a pup at 8 weeks alone would make me run and quickly. That is the typical backyard breeder mentality. She has pictures of the parents on her site but no pedigrees. Six weeks is too early for first vaccinations, they should have them between 8-10 weeks with the last one at 16 weeks. Do you mind if I ask how much she charges for these puppies?
Do you have your heart set on a girl or are you jsut looking for the right puppy? Again, I'm not trying to make you feel bad. Here is a pic of my maltese I bought as a pet when I almost got a maltipoo from a BYB. This is a good example of why it can be good to buy from a show breeder, because they focus on health and want their puppies to look like the breed standard. She was not bought as a show dog, but my daughter shows her in Junior Showmanship.

Mary, I can imagine how excited you are for the new puppy, but let me tell you when I read "they won't even see their mother past 6 weeks" I got really really scared! There are a lot of things that puppies learn from their mother, and as great a mommy to her as you will be, you will never be able to replace her furmom and give her the life lessons that she can give her, including a lot of socialization with the siblings and her reaction to the world. Pups that are separated from their mothers before 8 weeks (and that is the absolute minimum, and usually bigger breeds can pull it off) puppy will most likely have major issues dealing with the outside world. I'd be VERY VERY careful. I'm so so sorry, I'm not trying to burst your bubble, I just want to try and prevent future heartache.

I bought a "mutt" my first dog unknowing anything about either breed she was mixed with (maltese and yorkie) but you know what I couldn't love her anymore. If I were you I would tell the breeder that if she is not going to keep Penny another 4 weeks that you would like to find a new breeder, as hard as that may be to do it might save you alot of heartache.

At this point IMO it's not about the 4 weeks :( The point is you don't know the background of the parents, health, genetics and so on.
When I got Nemo in 2005 I didn't know anything I didn't realize all pet stores get the puppies from puppy-mills http://stoppuppymills.org/
It was only after ,I learned of these things. I love Nemo and I will take care of him and tend to any need he has, but he has had SO many problems. One that cost me 1800 dollars . If you don't have all this money to take care of future problems I would suggest then that you buy from a reputable breeder who knows her lines and will be with you for life during the pup's growth.
I hurts me a lot to have to say all these , but the truth needs to be told and people need to know what is going on and make an informed decision based on the info they have . For me to spend 1200 on this pup when I can go to a reputable breeder for about the same money just makes more sense.
Like I said ultimately Mary, it's your decision and yours only, but be aware and look at all options before you jump into something that really is at least a 12 to 18 year commitment. I wish I had know then what I know now.
This woman has no idea at what she is producing and like I said I am in no way saying she isn't a kind person or a well meaning person, but she is misinformed and Mary shouldn't be . Mary should have all the knowledge she can before she decides this. There are breeders in California and I and others will help you if you need it. This person in my opinion is a back yard breeder well meaning or not that is what she is /
Whatever you decide I wish you nothing but luck and love..

Hi Mary,
I've been watching this post and saw the breeder's website. I have to agree with everyone else - it looks like she's just out to make money. That is probably why she also lets her puppies go so young so she doesn't have to spend the extra money feeding them, getting them shots, etc.
Here is my breeder's website - they are fantastic. Just to show you a reputable breeder's site, all the pictures of their dogs, they have a lot of information on puppies and what do to - and you can look at a lot of their beautiful parents they have - and puppy pics to warm your heart! They are Chrisman Maltese. All of the reputable breeders I spoke to charge $3,000 for their female puppies (to start), and $2,000+ for their males. And a breeder should always be their to answer any of your questions and concerns throughout the pup's life. I'm not saying to buy from here (but they do ship), but this is a great site - I've never had a problem with Chloe, and she'll be two in May. I hope you enjoy looking! Check out all of the buttons - it's a big site :p

I would also like to thank you for being so willing to listen. That doesn't always happen and sometimes it gets ugly.
I also want to say that I do not know this breeder personally and am not trying to do anything to their reputation, everything I've said is based the information that they provide on their website and other listings. She fits the description for a backyard breeder, and in my opinion, has no business charging the prices she does.

There might actually be a silver lining to this gloomy cloud afterall :o I sent that other breeder an e-mail last night expressing my concerns and told her I am going to be holding off for this Sunday until I really think things through and come to an informed decision. This is a huge commitment and I want to do this right! I guess things happen for a reason, and I am considering myself lucky for findining this place. There is so much info out there that sometimes in can contradict itself...I have read in other places that the norm to separate pups from the litter and mom is 8-12 weeks.....Ugh, just makes me want to pull my hair out with all the mis-information out there. The time for weaning can vary. I let my moms tell me when they want to wean their pups. I've had a few weaned by 6 weeks but I ALWAYS let the mom play with her puppies as long as she wants after they are weaned. She still continues to teach them valuable lesson about bite inhibition, esp if it's a singleton litter. My current litter is 9 weeks old and the mom does not want to give them up yet, so she is still with them.
My ittle guy isn't going anywhere so just take your time to think things through. Also, make sure you mark your calander for Eukanuba Dec 12 - the vendors alone will make it VERY worth while!

I don't imagine asking the breeder to keep the pup longer will make any dif as she specifically mentioned that the pups do not even see their mom after weaning them.....so socialization won't really be taking place anymore there anyway. Sounds like a strange situation to me...never encountered anything like it even though I am sure others here have. Hmmmm....
OP, you should do what YOU feel is best. Strangers should not be allowed to make a decision FOR you as we will not be living with the choice after it is made. Advice is one thing, but the determining choice is yours and yours alone, girlfriend. For myself, I would acquire one elsewhere, but that is only my opinion--never to be substituted for your own. We'll be here for you regardless of whether you choose this puppy or another. Best wishes! :)

Just a lil' more info I want to share, my JiJi came from a breeder who did not have championship dogs to my knowledge but I adopted her for half of what your being charge. But he did not let her go until she was 12 weeks atleast and answered every question. I know I wouln't be able to afford a championship dog but I still wanted a healthy pup. She is AKC register (I'm still not 100% sure what that is). I know if the breeder would have told me he wouln't hold her for four extra weeks for her own good it will be a nono. Dog show or not, health is the first concern.

AKC registered doesn't mean good breeding!! It is a good point to start with! Then you have to see if they do the testing. Not the DNA testing but the blood panel testing! Also, personally, I like it when breeders want to stay in touch with you! And that their contract does stipulate that if you, for whatever reason, cannot take keep them that you have to contact them first!
A GOOD BREEDER ALWAYS PUT THE PUP FIRST!

I can honestly say that some of my really good friends now are people who have a dog from me. I love it!
And I do believe it's important to have a minimum amount of testing done before placing a dog even if it isn't cheap!

What really did it for me is the wealth of information I got from this site aswell as the breeders non-response to my last e-mail regarding my new found concens. I felt that was very unprofessional on her part and did not want to buy a puppy from a person that is going to DISAPPEAR on me after purchase! Especially after paying $1000 for a dog that is not even champion lineage. just wanted to keep you ladies informed on my decision and also THANK YOU again for advising and educatiing me on something I obviously needed schooling on. Just to give everyone an update...TODAY is Sunday and I decided to go with my gut instinct and NOT GET THE PUPPY! I just don't think it was worth the gamble! You guys were a godsend :) I guess the seach continues, but now I can say I have a new and informed path to follow :D
Mary, LOOK forward, do not lament over what may have been. You are well armed now with so much valuable knowledge, I feel NO BYBer could pull the wool over your eyes now.
I would bet that more of us, then not, have been in the very same spot you are in or worse yet, had not found a GREAT site like this to learn from before getting that puppy, we should not have gotten.
You are one very strong woman, I admire your open mind and willingness to learn. GOOD for YOU!
I want to wish you a GREAT hunt for the right Maltese for you, from the right breeder for you. And I feel you will be a GREAT Maltese Mom very soon.

Miss Melanie your words have were encouraging :) I am only trying to learn as much as I can so that I can be prepared for a new member to my small family. I am a perfectionists in a way so I feel sorry for the lil guy/girl I may get :p I only want what is best, and coming on here I notice that many of you ladies hold that same exact attitude when it comes to dealing with your precious fur faces ;)

Hi Mary,
Welcome to MT. I am fairly new here too but have learned a few things. I got Belle at 12 weeks. She was tiny at just over 2 pounds. Belle is a Morkie but looks just like a Malt. but has the attitude of a Yorkie. Her breeder took the 7 puppies away from the mom before 6 weeks as she was overwhelmed by them and started biting them. The breeder hand bottle fed them until they were eating solid foods. One thing I have noticed with Belle is I don't think she got the training from her mom about playing nice and not biting hard. Their mom really puts them in their place fast when they start that. I've had to work a little harder with teaching Belle about no biting. Another thing that took us by surprise was when Belle started running like crazy for about 5 minbutes it was like a small whirl wind in the livingroom. Found out these are called "zoomies" and natural to Malts. It's cute but stand back! Another bit of advice for not putting her down in the grass or near other dogs. At the vet, I would not put Belle right on the table, I put her blanket down first. I know they spray the table off (or are suppose to) but I figured better safe than sorry. Also the floor in the vet office. People bring their sick dogs there.
All these things keep popping into my mind. If you are going to put a collar on Penny, try a cat collar that is stretchy or has a break away feature. Belle got her collar caught over her bottom jaw and in her mouth twice. If I had not been home she would have choaked to death. I had to grab scissors and cut it off, it's scary. Don't leave a collar on her when you're not there.
One other thing that has been coming up on Yorkie Talk.com is people having their puppies stolen, don't let her outside alone even when she's bigger. There has been an increase in Large Hawks, eagles, owls and coyotes snatching furbabies. Be watchful, it seems like the occurances are picking up. Hawks will sit and watch from trees or fences. Don''t mean to scare you but if you look on Yorkie Talk there are several devestated people whose furbabies are gone. Hope you enjoy it here. Between this site and Yorkie talk you can learn alot and you don't need to have a Yorkie, everyone is welcome. I like both sites as Belle is both but most information pertains to both kind of dogs. Good luck with your new furbaby. Belle sends furkisses and sniffybutts to Penny

I live in missouri and there are breeders out the wazu here.I think like 6 in my small town alone. Not all reputable though. I wouldnt pay 1,000 dollars for a puppy unless I could meet them or someone on this site recommended me to them.Good luck finding your puppy..

Yeah thank god I didn't end up getting her...She ended up e-mailing me saying she dropped the price to 900, but I still didn't bite! I was concerned about her weaning the puppy at only 6 weeks of age! SO it was a huge NO when I was informed on here that the standard and AKC regulations say 12 weeks...That is half the time there! I am in the works with Ballaratmalt (Stacy) and her available 7 month old furbaby :) He is adorable and seems like a good fit into my lifestyle. I can't wait to meet him this Saturday! :yay:

When we meet up on saturday -- I apologize in advance for Lois' behavior. She is... uh... how to describe her..... Alright fine, she's a piece of work but you can't say she doesn't have personality.
