Oh No!! I just answered the phone to a call that didn't show up on my caller ID and this guy talked so fast I couldn't get a word in. He started with saying he was looking for pledges for the police dept. childrens fund blah blah blah. He suckered me into pledging 35.00 to some fund and I don't know what it is. I should have hung-up, now he'l be expecting the 35.00 and will keep bugging me for it. I am sooooo mad at myself right now. I don't want to send in the 35.00 either. :(

Get them all the time too!!!! I let them ramble and say: Well, I have to ask the husband. They start out high and by the time we are nearing the conversation is ending, he has dropped down to $5.00 but I tell them the same thing. I have to ask hubby, call back later. THEY NEVER can do that! Works for me!! ROFL

Did they give you a name to make the check out to??? If so, look them up in the phone book and call them back or are they sending you some material or information throught he mail???? Take the package back to the post office and tell them you do not want this information and to please return it to the sender!!!! JMO

I got suckered once too and my hubby was mad at me because we didn't have the money. He never paid it and we kept getting bills for it like it was a debt we owed. I felt bad but I really don't like the tactics they use to make you agree to give money either. I thought I was just oking them to send me info and I'd donate if I wanted to.

That is really irritating! I always let my answering machine pick up so I can monitor my calls. It has a message that says, "If your selling it, we're not buying it", they almost always never leave a message, the ones that do are computer generated. If it is family or friends calling we pick it up.

Have you ever tried asking them to buy something from you??? LOL That gets rid of them real FAST....or tell them "I'll commit to your fund raiser if you commit the same amount to mine, but you show me your money first!!" LOL

We dont get them on the phone lines much anymore-now they are coming to the door. I asked for a "no soliciting sign" for christmas from everyone, but they laughed and didnt take it seriously---but THAT is all I wanted!!! Still dont have one hahahahaha

Very Clever!!! I'll have to try that one! Sounds like it would be just a bit more frustrating than my tactic! Of course if they do repeat themselves, what a bore! Of course I usually put them on speaker phone so I can do other stuff while they bore me with the "read" pitch! ROFL

That's what I need to do, get an answering machine so I can listen to who's calling. I have voice mail and the only clue I have is the caller ID. :( I'm in need of a new phone anyway and I saw some nice ones with answering machines at Costco. ;)

It truly does work to have an answering machine as well! I had caller ID for a while and they kept raising the price, so we changed our answering machine to say right up front: Hi, we are screening all of our calls, we will either pick up or you may leave a message!

Simple but a lot of hang ups!! ROFL:D

I too, got those calls all the time, probably because in the past, I have always sent the money. I mentioned it to my nephew who is a police officer, and he said the police charities never see that money. I had already pledged to another one at that time, so when the stuff came in the mail, I didn't send a check. Of course, they called me and gave me the spiel about how they rely on generous citizens like me to fund these very important programs. I told him I would not be sending it as I was told by a police officer that they don't get any funds from those calls and he apologized for bothering me and I haven't gotten one since.
