Now ladies, JiJi does not scratch every second or minute but I see her scratching more than usual. First I think fleas but I see nothing, so i switch her shampoo from Bless The Beast to Spa Lavish (comfort). I bath her once a week and let her conditioner sit for extra minutes. She still itches, is it normal for dogs to scratch themselves every hour (or more)?
Is there a product thats more soothing?

Mitzy gets like this when she has fleas. I can never find them but I know they are there because after she gets a Capstar pill (a 24 hour flea pill) she is itch free!! I also bathe her in oatmeal during the winter months becuase she gets really dry skin and the oatmeal is soothing. I take a panty hose and fill it with oatmeal and let that soak in the tub with her.
I would try getting a Capstar pill for Jiji and see if the itching is any less. Next time you bathe her (make sure its not to often, this can cause dry skin) when the conditioner is on her use a flea comb and go by small sections looking for fleas. With the conditioner on her the fleas will not be able to jump off her or move around as easy and they would with her dry hair. Also do you have her on a monthly flea protection??
If you really don't think its fleas (usually it is :( especially for Mitzy) take her to the vet, she may have some sort of allergy, but allergies arn't as common as you would think.
To give Jiji some extra relief try giving her some children's dye free Benedryl. Call your vet and he will be able to give you dosage instructions ;) I only give it at night though to help her have some itch free sleep :)

I never thought of putting oatmeal in pantyhose but that's a neat idea. I have use the flea comb with the conditioner but didn't catch anything. She's not scratching her ear all the time or chewing her paws, that's why I wasn't thinking allergies. -Thank you

Mine scratch occasionally too. I mean I don't have fleas but I scratch myself sometimes. LOL So I would rule out fleas too if you aren't finding any on her. It took me a while to figure out why Kallie was always chewing her feet when we first adopted her. I had her on Lamb and rice and she is obviously allergic to Lamb because once I put her on duck, the chewing stopped. Now I have them on home cooked food and still not chewing but I don't use lamb as my base meat. It could also be dry skin. It is really hard to say! But by trying different things, you might be able to lick the problem and bring JiJi some relief.
