Here is some recent pics of LB, I had her cut down really short because of her surgery that was postponed and I just wanted to show Carol how her hair is growing.
She just had her bath.

AND you are thinking of trimming it more!!!! lol
She looks so cute in that cut though, I will admit that!!! I can't imagine why you are having a mat problem, what is there left to mat???? lol:D
You know, I personally feel that the longer their coat grows, the easier it is to keep mat free. Yes, it does take longer to give a bath and longer to dry and longer to groom. The only reason Kallie's long hair gets a mat, is because of TOBY the TERROR. He plays with her and they bite at each other but never in a hurting way, and his saliva and play biting causes mats and the same with Toby, Kallie puts mats in him! That's the only downside to having two babies. :D
I'm thinking Lilybelles's hair is so short that if she chews or scratches herself, it is going to mat! You are at the tuff stage of "letting the hair grow out." Is she using her paws to scratch her ears???? That will cause mats.........Really, how do you think she is getting the mats????
And one other thing the Bless the Beast "Nourishing Shampoo" and the "Replenishing Conditioner" worked wonders on Toby's coat! Shine and silky results but his coat is like so the opposite of Kallie's! But even with Kallie the Bless the Beast "Detangling shampoo" did wonders for her coat as well. It's not quite so cottony now. I use several 3 min. leave in conditioners on the end sections of Kallie's long hair every bath and a final rinse with Petsilk leave-in conditioner. And of course I am a firm believer in an "every" day grooming session!!!! A must for a lovely coat! Long or short!
I don't know what else to tell you but that Lileybelle is a cutie in her short cut and you are the one that has to care for her...........so do what you think is best for YOU and for HER!!!
Thanks for sharing the pics.........I always love pics!!!

Carol, she gets matted on her ears and tail. I'm trying really hard to get control of them. She rolls around ALOT! But, I promise to get tougher on it!

I actually really like it cut short. The pic with her little t shirt on is so adorable! And I think they did a really nice job on the cut around her face and head.

Wow, her hair really grows FAST!!! What a difference!
Do you spray a water/conditioner on those areas before you give her a grooming session???? That may also help keep the mats down and make the grooming session a little less trying on both of you!
I use different mixtures everytime I refill my grooming spray bottle. Sometimes it is petsilk, sometimes cowboy magic and sometimes coat handler conditioner.............but always use something during the grooming session.
I don't know what else to say. You have the right brushes? A pin brush without the balls at the tips is a must. One brush for her body and a smaller brush for around the face as it seems to be less intimidating to my babies than a big brush coming towards their eyes and sensitive nose! LOL
Just trying to throw every suggestion I can think of ........... but I'm running a bit low on suggestions.

Thanks Jodi, to be honest with that shirt on she looks like a poor abandoned baby:D I need to get ordering from you again. The harness vests I ordered before just don't fit her anymore! :sidesplit:
