I know it's not a maltese, but yorkies are good too. I want to stay on this board with ya'll though cause everyone is so great... I hope ya'll don't mind! I'll get pics tomorrow!

I'm on YT..........I'm Morkie4 there as well. It's big but it is nice for information on Yorkies! And even though it is large, don't let that intimidate you from being there for information. Can't wait to see pics of your new baby.......sometimes you just have to "see" your baby before a name pops in your head. Toby was named Conway........it just didn't fit the little rascal and we talked on the way home from picking him up and selecting and rejecting names............then Toby just popped right up in my mind! Hubby liked it and Toby responded very well to it! He JUST LOOKS like a TOBY!!! So please post pics!!!:)

We actually don't have a name for him yet... we're thinking! I think we are going to go with Chip. He's very shy and is very quiet. It takes him awhile to warm up to people and he threw up in the car a few times... I think it was a combination of being with new people and car rides. He is suuuuch a sweetheart though!!!!

hes been feed puppy purina chicken stuff (hasnt eaten much since his car ride home (prolly upset tummy) but we gave him about a cup or so of water and a few pieces of his food we had to hand feed him but he should be fine the lady we got him from gave us some of this nutrience paste stuff to give him to help with blood sugar so that should work.
right now i cant sleep just watching him sleep. we tried to put him in the crate but his wimpers got to be to much very quikly. we figured one night of us on the floor with him (just to calm him and stuff) cant hurt but the law must be laid down.

btw story on him...
we called the people they had a few dogs 2 westies 3 bichons and 2 yorkies...
when we had called they had the bichon and 2 yorkies one yorkie 550 and the other 950 (the one we got). they gave us their address so we stopped by but no answer (they were downstairs in the basement cleaning. so we tried to call again and again cell phone was off so we left a note on the door. basically to cut this story down they read the note about us stopping by and felt sry for us they offered us the last puppy for 700 marked down from 950 let alone ive seen purebread yorkies like him sell for 1,200+
i think we got him for a bargain
=-D and in my opinion so far worth every penny spent

Have you booked him into the Vet yet for a wellness checkup?
It is important he be checked out by a vet to make sure he is a healthy puppy and then you will be able to ask your Vet for advise on the food you are feeding him and his feeding schedule.
He is such a little guy and it may just be taking a few days for him to settle in.
He is very cute.....

Newborn puppies receive immunization against diseases from colostrum contained in their mothers milk while nursing (assuming the bitch was properly vaccinated shortly before the breeding took place). Initially, during their first 24 hours of life, maternal antigens (passive immunity) are absorbed through the pups intestines which are very, very thin during those first few hours (this is why it is so important that puppies nurse from the mother during that critical time). After the colostrum ceases (a day or so later), the maternal antigens decline steadily.
During this time, puppies cannot build up their own natural immunity because the passive immunity gets in the way. As the passive immunity gradually declines, the pup's immune system takes over. At this time, the pups should be given their first immunization shots so they can build up their own antibodies against them. However, there is no way to tell when passive immunity is gone. This is why pups should be given a shot every few weeks (2 - 3 weeks apart and a series of at LEAST three shots).
Picture a plot of antibody level versus time. Maternal antibody is steadily declining. You just don't know the rate. At some level, say X, protection from parvo is sufficient. Below X, protection may be less than effective against an infection. In general, vaccine antigen cannot stimulate the puppy's own immune system until the maternal antibody level is below X. Let's say it is .7*X. Here's the rub. The antibody level spends some time dropping from X to .7X. During this time, even if you vaccinated every day, you would (in this theoretical discussion) not be able to stimulate immunity. Yet you are below that level of maternal protection at which infection can be effectively fought off.
Thus the importance of giving several vaccinations at 2-4 week intervals until around 16-18 weeks. One maximizes the chance of catching the puppy's immune system as soon as it is ready to respond, minimizing the amount of time the puppy may be susceptible to infection.
IMPORTANT: The last shot should be given AFTER 16 weeks of age (4 months) to be SURE that dam's antibodies have not gotten in the way of the pup building up its own immunity (read the label of the vaccine!).
Up until 8 weeks or so, the shots should consist of Distemper, Measles, and CPI. After that, it should be DHLPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza and Parvovirus). This is at minimum: you may need to add other vaccinations appropriate to your area, such as Lyme, Heartworm (actually a preventive medicine), Rabies (most places), and so on.
You should keep your puppy away from all strange dogs. If you know that a particular dog is current on its shots and not carrying disease, then go ahead and let your puppy socialize. The same holds true for people. Ask them to wash their hands before they play with your puppy. It can't hurt and it could save you a great deal of grief. As your puppy gets its shots, you can slowly add more and more exposure to its life. But keep in mind this is an infant and needs gentle care!
Worms can present a serious problem to puppy health. There is no good way to prevent puppies from having worms, for a variety of reasons. You should take your puppy in regularly for worm-testing. Worms can interfere with the puppy's growth if left unchecked. Since it is very common for puppies (even from the best breeder) to have worms from the dam's dormant worms, you must take care to have your puppy checked regularly when young

Adam took the puppy to the vet. The vet said that he was definately sick, but wasn't sure with what and it would cost about $300 just for tests, which obviously doesn't include treatments. Adam also told me that the little guy threw up at least 5 times today total. He called the people that sold us the dog and they said it's probably kennel cough and I think that is a crock of crap. The puppy isn't coughing at all. Last time I talked to Adam he said that he is on his way to the people's house and is probably returning him. He also said that the puppy was sleeping in the carrier with his tongue sticking out and shaking. It hurts us both so much to take him back... I just don't even know what to say. I get very attached to animals and I instantly fell in love with this little dog. I'm fighting crying right now as I'm typing. It's all so frustrating. Why can't everything just work out with dogs for once?

:( Ashley I am really sorry:( Please if you want a puppy go to a reputable breeder, you will know the parents the puppies history. My nemo was bought in a pet store this was before I knew better he is only 1 year and a half and he already needed patella surgery my vet said he was poorly breed:( My next one will be from a reputable breeder I love Nemo to death but I should have been smarter, with a BackYard Breeder or a pet store you just dont know what will happen down the line .With a reputable breeder you will know the pedigree you will see the parents and the breeder will be with you every step of the way.Im sorry this happened to you and Adam:( But you have another chance to be smart and do the right thing.Let me know if you need help finding some breeders

OKAY ya'll are going to think we are crazy, but we have another update... and it's GOOD! I just got off the phone with Adam. Chip (we've decided to name him that) is doing perfectly fine. The man gave us some medicine for kennel cough and gave him some when they first arrived and fed him some wet food instead of the dry. Adam said he scarfed the food down and became very entergetic... more than Adam had seen yet. I think the puppy needed nourishment and he might be too young to understand how to eat dry food yet because ever since last night, he tried to eat several times, but it kept falling out of his mouth. We are going to watch Chip over the next few days and if he still is sick, we are going to return him, but if he stays the way Adam said he was, then we will keep him. Just pray that he'll get better 100%. Oh and Adam told me the vet was a wench. He said that she said, "You bought a dog and can't afford the $300 to take care of him?" *&%$^%! Thats what I have to say. Adam is on his way home now, then we are taking him to PetSmart to get a kitty sized collar (he's so tiny, x-small dog collars won't even fit him) and a name tag! Wish us luck for our precious baby!

Geez, he is so cute. I think he threw up a little last night because it was a little left in his system. He ate this morning without any sort of a "fight". This morning Adam took him out to potty at 6:30 then he came in and licked the both of us, but mainly Adam, for litterally 15 minutes. This morning he was playing with his toys a lot. Last night he jumped off the bed, but Adam caught him, thank god... the bed is higher than most normal beds! I think he's gonna be okay though!

You need to look into buying some stairs for the little guy to get up and down off the bed. We bought some for our little Toby and he uses them alot, every night and morning! Our bed is like really high!!! So we really needed them to keep the little ones from hurting themselves! They are great to have!

When I got Mia she got sick the 2nd day she would throw up water and kept shaking her head and rubbing on the floor. She threw up about 5 or 6 times. I rush her to emergency and they put her on IV said her sugar was low...but she "siezed" 2 x after her sugar was stable and the vet said she had nuerological problems to return her to the breeder. Well I discharged her spoke to the breeder and she took care of her for 2 days, she gave her wet food with a littl bit od pedialyte. ALL she had was low blood sugar. Like yours she wasn't use to dry food so she wasn't eating much and her sugar went down. The vet was an idiot didn't recognize the symptoms ($500) later. The vet said 3 other pups had come in with the same thing. These small little babies need to be watched on how much they eat and if they are picky like mine supplement their diet with Nutracal. No problems since. Good luck your baby is ADORABLE!

Yea, he's doing perfectly fine. We didn't pay any attention to the vet (she was going to charge us $350 for just testing) and took him straight to the breeder. He has a vet license and gave us some antibiotics which we are still giving him and he is scarfing down his wet food. We even found some softer treats that he just LOVES! He even learned how to sit on command yesterday! We also give him Nutristat or whatever it's called every morning with breakfast and every evening with dinner.
And I agree Morkie... yorkies are little dardevils! He will jump off the bed (or try) with no hesitation, but when it comes to one little step... he's scared... lol he's a goofy lil furbaby lol

sounds like he is doing great! What a little cutie pie he is! Congrats! Like others here, I really want to encourage you guys to buy Chip some stairs! Especially if you have a high bed. I too have a high bed and bought Mia some stairs at Petco. She was a little intimidated at first, but we sat up on the bed with some treats and encouraged her to use them. Once she got to the top she would get a treat. Now she uses them ALL the time! Sometimes we will be sitting in the living room and Mia is laying up on our bed! LOL! Best wishes with the new puppy! they sure do keep you busy! I cant wait to see more pictures!

We actually have some stairs that my grandfather made for my 16 year old cat that doesn't move very well anymore, so we tried to "help" him up the stairs and he didn't like it very much. We will definately try the treat thing though! (I didn't even think about that!)

he is so worn out. he's learned how to jump somewhat. im trying to help him get strength in his little legs to climb stairs he almost got up one step.
he spent 2 hours in his crate today the 1st 45 minutes was constant wimpering then 10-15 minutes of silence then 5-10 of wimpering again.
he'll have pee accidents but now its confined to our bathroom floor it seems (easy to clean thank god) but #2 has been mostly outside (he ahtes the cold).
I'm getting him used to his purse carrier thing for ashley and hes doing great 10 minutes of walking around and showing him stuff and only one wimper.
he's learning very quick.
and that bitter apple is great he just sniffs where it is and doesnt bother that portion.
after a while im thinking (and the wife) once everything is settled mabe an other dog for companionship! =-D
(maltese i hope)

Chip is more of Adam's dog. If we ever do get another dog for companionship it's going to be more of my dog. I want to have a FEMALE yorkie, maltese, or papillon can either name her Izabella (Izy, or Bella) for short or Ava. tehehehe I'm planning already!

He's doing good... silly as ever. We love him more and more each day. He is very confusing though. I don't know what to do about house breaking. We take him outside and the SECOND he gets back inside, he does his business... ? What?! lol and he pee'd in our bed last night! We are trying to let him sleep in his crate tonight and see if it goes better. Right now he's barking and whining like crazy. He was so funny today. He attacked a leaf that was bigger than him. I laughed so hard!

Puppies are so much fun! We got our yorkie baby first, and we just recently got our maltese. Our yorkie, Miko, is almost 3 yrs old now, and I remember his puppyhood like it was just yesterday! It was so much fun :) We were sure we wanted another yorkie, but then Miko was diagnosed with an inoperable liver shunt and bladder stones, and we had to hold off on getting another pup. Well, then we found someone that was having to rehome their maltese/shih tzu puppy that they had just purchased, and we took him in and gave him to my mom because she had always been telling us how badly she wanted either a maltese or a shih-tzu :) Miko got along sooo well with him and they became such good friends that my husband and I decided to get a maltese :) We really love both breeds so much and they compliment each other very well. How is your pup doing today?

Just a suggestion but try to take him to the same spot to go potty outside so that he smells the odors from previous eliminations!!! It will stimulate him to go! Also make sure you don't do anything other than using the time for potty break and keep telling him to "go potty" repeatedly! I also took a small treat with me each time I took them out to potty and as soon as they went I gave the verbal praise and then when they were finished the physical reward of loving on them and finally the "treat" or "bribe" reward! Maybe this will help!:)

He's very hyper actually right now. Adam and I went to Fort Belvoir yesterday and did some shopping so he spent about 6.5 hours in his crate, then he went downstairs with my cousin for about an hour, then we decided to crate train him at night now too, so he spent all night in his crate. He whined at first because he was confused, then he slept until about 3:30 needing to go potty. THEN we couldn't get him to be quiet after putting him back in the crate so I lied down by his crate until he became calm and went to bed. Then we had to get up because I had a dentist appointment so we let him run around while I was attempting to beautify myself, but then he had to go back in the crate. He spent about another 3 hours in there... and now he is a boundless form of energy ball. He ran out and started jumping, licking, biting, growling, at anything. He started running in tight little circles! It was funny. Adam said he attacked a giant leaf the size of him outside. We are about to take him to petsmart and see if they can weigh him. I think he's been growing already! We want a second dog already... I don't think we will get either a yorkie or maltese... I want a MORKIE! It's the best of both worlds! I am really glad we got this silly little guy though. He was so worth it!

We actually do all that, but he's such a curious little puppy and he gets distracted by everything. He was chasing the grass as the wind was blowing it... lol. :p I read somewhere on one of these forums that if we know he has to go, but doesn't after awhile bring him inside and put him in his crate. After like 10-15 minutes take him back outside, if he doesn't go again, put him back in his crate for another 10-15 minutes then eventually he'll get the idea that if he wants to "be free" that he will have to potty outside first. We've been trying that, as well as the treats, overly praising, repeating "go potty" and taking him to the same spot. We're also starting to crate train him at night... after he pee'd in the bed I think it's best and he actually let us know when he needed to potty last night by whining!

So exciting to hear that he's doing so well!! He sounds like an extremely happy pup :) We wanted another pup soon after we got Miko as well, but we had to wait, and it was worth the wait. Now we have Emma, and she's a little doll!
I agree with Morkie4...Miko was potty trained by lots of praise and excitement after he went potty where he was supposed to. He loved going potty because we would "throw a party" everytime he went in the right place.
Edit:
I just read that you are doing the praise thing after he goes potty :) He'll catch on very soon!
