Hi,
My Coco did not have any tear staining before 3 months old. Now at 6 months old she is teething and has the tear staining.
My question is will she have tear staining after her teething period?
I have read about all the different reasons for the tear staining but if she didn't have it before the teething I am hoping she won't after the teething.
Can anyone share their experience with this?
Thank you,

I adopted all my fluffs after they were two years old and all had tear staining due to various reasons........with some TLC and keeping their face clean and dry, the stains have become less and less. They still have a little but that is because I don't always get around to washing their face daily like I should. Most maltese puppies do not have tear staining until they are teething......hopefully once your fluff is done teething and has her secondary teeth, you can try other things for the staining. But in the meantime, you can wash and keep the face dry which will help!

Yup!! That's all I do too!! Wash the face daily with a warm, wet cloth and once a week use Spa Fresh Facial Scrub!! Mitzy had horrible staining as a pup but I've been washing her face everyday and her stains are hardly noticiable

My girl is 7 months and although her stains aren't as bad there still there. I admit I don't wash her face daily mostly every other day even then I miss some days. But I still think my skin boys get dirtier.
Good luck and patience!!

Hi JesBred,
Thanks for your response. Do they make a spa fresh facial scrub for puppies?
I have been washing her face everyday and then towel drying it. But she still has the stains.
I have been using a puppy shampoo on the stain area and then rinsing with water every other day and then just wiping with a wet washcloth because the hair around the mouth gets very stiff from the tears and eating.
I guess I will just have to wait and see what happens after she is finished teething.
Thanks again,

I'm not sure if there is a seperate facial scrub for puppies but I assume the regular kind is safe enough for her. Its just a tear free wash to help gently lift the stains.
You can also use a flea comb to get any "gunk" she has under her eyes then use a cloth to wash the stain. I always find Mitzy has gunk in the mornings, like I do :p, so I dampen the area, comb it with the flea comb to get all the gunk, then wipe it with a warm cloth. Sometimes I can just grab the gunk with my fingers but sometimes I prefer the comb.
After she is done teething it will probably be alot easier to get the staining under control
