I am not sure if this belongs on this thread or where but I wasn't allowed to put in on the the disaster plan one. I just wanted to let you know what I have learned about being ready for everything. It could be helpful to new Maltese or any dog owners. I typed a page about each one of my dogs, about their personalitiy, likes and dislikes, habits and health tips. I put it in a small binder that you can see through the cover (I made a cover page with their names and pictures and our contacts and phone numbers. Inside I also put copies of their medical records, especially shots and medications. People to notify if something happened to my hubby and I and our wishes for our beloved furbabies in the event we died. I keep both their books updated during the fall and winter and then they do into the dog bag. We live in Minnesota where we are prone to tornadoes. Hugo had a massive one 2 years ago only two blocks from our house. We have a shelter under our steps in the basement. I keep the dog bad down there during the summer. It contains their food, treats, medications, a toy or two, one of Belle's blankets, a spare collar and leash, pee pads and extra grooming wupplies. I also found a soft sided crate at a garage sale for $5.00. I guess I figure if the sirens blow, I only have to worry about grabbing my babies and getting us down stairs. If the worst happens, I have what I need to take care of them until we find another shelter. I also keep a case of bottled water for them and us as sometimes the water gets contaminated. When I board my babies, I also take the dog books with and the boarders love them. I've been an Emergency Medical Tech. for 18 years and everyone always talks about ways to keep you family safe, my babies are part of my family and I would not go to shelter without them. Hope this helps someone to be able to think ahead. I also keep a dog bag in the car with the same info incase of an accident. Please bear with me if this is too long or in the wrong place. You wouldn't leave your skin babies behind, don't leave your furbabies either!

Great Idea!!! I have a similar "Plan of action" because we have hurricanes but at least you can be forwarned and "RUN." So we keep updated pics, shot records, information on "US" and many of the things you mentioned as well. They are a part of our family as well and I wanted to do everything "I" could to give them the best chance to live a long life. When we travel, I always carry extra water for drinking and washing, shampoo/conditioner, flash lights, blankets, towels, baby wipes, leashes, harnesses, etc...........everything for an emergency and then some!!!!

You gave some good suggestions............thanks!!!

Same here. We actually have 3 folders, one for each of our cars (in case of evacuation) and one we keep in the house. Both dogs also have these neat collars that have USB's on them. The USB contains all sorts of information that I can update any time I want. I have pictures on there, what they eat, how much they eat, their medications, our personal information, who to contact in case of emergency, their medical records, just all sorts of neat stuff. Its nice because we have them hanging by our door so if needed we grab them and the pets and go. And when we travel I update the USB's to where we are going so if they get lost while we are traveling someone knows where to take them. The only downfall to those is you still need tags on them in case someone doesnt have a computer.

Both our cars also have emergency kits with water, spare collars, harnesses and leashes, food for 3 days, and a blanket.
