OK, so I got my new Madan brush and combs today. I sat down to brush the kids out tonight. I am using a spray bottle with diluted conditioner in it, as many suggested to spritz their coats before brushing. I am finding, however, that the bush and comb do not go through their coats as well wet as they do dry. I'm not getting their coats too wet, just a light squirt from the spray bottle. Is this typical? If I run the comb through their dry coat, it just glides through it like silk. Also, after spraying and combing, their coats get all wavy and sometimes it's like I'm creating mats as I comb  What am I doing wrong, if anything??

Also, I tried the suggestion of rinsing their faces with a squeeze bottle. Can't remember who suggested it, but it worked so well!!! Was even able to place a small bowl underneath to catch the water as it rinsed through their beards! Thanks for the tip, whoever you were. I learn so much here!!

I'd also like to thank those of you who recommended the Madan brushes and combs. I'm sold! So much better than what I was using before.

Love the Madan but I can't help you with the brushing. I brush dry.

I always spray with a water/conditoner combo when I do their "daily brush out." I know what you are talking about seeming to make matts. So I'm not sure if this will help because I had to change the way I brushed to remedy that problem. I always start at the bottom underneath layer and work my way up layer by layer with the brush.....and using the comb with each layer as well. By the time I get to the top layer I brush then comb through the hair carefully and slowly so as not to pull or cause snags. If I run across one, I carefully work it out with the comb and brush again and then comb again. "LIGHTLY MIST" is the key and now that you have a good brush and comb, it is only going to get easier and better. BUT brush daily! :D :D :D

As to the wavy?? I think you may be using too much "wet" for their brush out. I find them a lot harder to brush/comb out right after their bath. It's like their hair sticks to their bodies but once I blow dry it, it is as straight as a board.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I'm doing okay. Will try a llittle less spritzing next time. I've just started growing them out again and coats are maybe 1", so not much layering yet. I used to have them long and would have to pin up Duke's coat with a hair clip so I could comb the lower part first. They get that long, they're a handful. Hard to do a daily comb out. I work full-time and the only time I get with them is after dinner. Takes me about an hour to do them both. Don't know how I'd possibly manage any more!
