Im new here :) Ive had Farrah for a couple weeks now. She is perfect however just over the past couple days she's had tearing and now noticing a slight smell. Is this just from teething? When does this happen? She's about 14-15 weeks. Im just so new to this. Farrah is a maltese/yorkie mix.

Becuase of her age it makes me think it is teething.

Try washing her face daily with a damp washcloth to remove any "boogies" This will help with the staining. I wash Mitzy's face every morning and every night before we go to bed. I also use a flea comb to make sure I got everything. As a puppy she had pretty bad staining but since washing everyday her staining is not bad at all anymore.

Thanks :) This is definitely a new thing for her so I thought teething but I really didnt know if this could be a side effect and if she wasnt old enough?? Her fur gets really wet under the eyes. Should I be using a product like angel eyes?

Don't use any antibiotics as long as the adult teeths are not in. She is too young for that. Antibiotic is a last resort.

I also think it may be due to teething........the angel eyes is not for puppies as it has an antibiotic in it and can cause damage to the secondary teeth. For now, washing and keeping the area dry is about all you can do. Teething is a very stressful process..........it will pass though. Keeping the area clean and dry is the best thing you can do for right now.

My girl went through that and then she stop and just recently she started back with eyestains again. It's frustruating but she doesn't seem to mind. I use Spa Facial Scrub to wash her face daily and I have seen improvement. I changed her water to distille water with a drop of apple cider vinegar and put a little cornstarch on her face to keep it dry. Those are the recomendations I got and there still on trial, hopefully they work on my girl.

Emma's eyes were very runny when she was that age, and in fact, they still run a good bit now even though she's over a year old. I've never given her an antibiotic, but she has just very minimal staining. I use Spa Lavish Facial Scrub at least 2 to 3 times a week to wash her face, she drinks bottled water from stainless steel dishes, and I've been giving her a teaspoon a day of plain, unsweetened yogurt. Not sure which of those things works the best or if it's the combination, but Emma's face stays pretty white. Part of it is also just genetic - I think some pups will stain no matter what you do! Also, remember to keep the hair pulled back out of her eyes so that it doesn't irritate them and cause them to run even more. It can be tricky at that age because the hair is still short and growing out but do your best to keep it away from her eyes!
