We've tried to leave him at home by himself in the crate and Adam has left home a few times but everytime he sees Adam and is being held by someone else he'll whine and fight to get to him. If Adam leaves the house he bing bings everywhere and gets into everything. Adam just went to take a shower and he said something to me. Chip was fine until then. Next thing you know, Chip is pawing and biting at the bathroom door and was shaking all over. He laid on my chest for a couple minutes so I held him really close and he started fighting and scratching at me. We've tried to do things to get him to stop, but I'm afraid he's starting to have some major seperation anxiety. Any suggestions?

Maybe Adam should leave you with chip for the whole day and see if you can make some kind of connection with him. You take him on walks, you feed him, you do everything for the next 2wks and see if that will help, let Adam pat chip when chip is sitting on your lap, don't let him smother him with affection, allow that to be your job for a bit, until you have made that bond with each other. My Sammy maree is such a mummy's gal, she would follow me everywhere if I let her, but I don't. Mind you we have added Max and Ernie to our canine family and that makes a HUGE difference, she doesn't want to leave them to follow me, incase she misses out on something, lol but she watches me always, lol

Good luck, I bet it upsets you a bit cause you want that connection, giving you big hugs.

Kallie was two yrs. old when we got her and she had terrible separation anxiety! She was not destructive but would mess in the house anytime we would leave!!! We thought we would never be able to housetrain her. So we laid pee pads down and she went on them fine! So we decided to get another dog to keep her company and she has not messed in the house since then........now going on 11 months!!! Both are 100% housetrained.

HOWEVER, the vet and all articles I have read on separation anxiety suggests that getting another dog will not correct the problem. So Bek had some really great ideas that you need to try with Chip BEFORE you even consider getting another dog.

Also maybe Ashley, if you could wear one of Chips T-shirts that he has worn to have his smell and your smell presented to Chip when you are working with him. Time alone with him outside or playing with his with is favorite toy!!! And feeding him treats by hand and a lot of verbal communication with him might help!! Just some suggestions!!

I understand what you all are meaning, but sometimes it's so hard to do that. I try to help out where I can. I have fed him a few times, taken him outside a few times, I've given him his nutristat a few times, I gave him his heartworm pill, I did his flea and tick stuff, I walked him on the leash, gave him a bath yesterday, and I play with him all the time. It's just hard to do everything for him when I'm working all the time. Adam has a easier time of doing all that for him. If we had the money, I would take off a week or so and do it for him, but I'm taking care of us and the dog right now. If I did that, we would not be able to afford anything.

Chip was so cute last night. He slept by my side all night long!

See, he's starting to bond with you already:D he's still very young & these things sometimes take time! Good Luck.

OOps! Yea, I don't think Ashley would quite fit into one of Chip's shirts, I did mean one of your shirts, Adam!!!

Sounds good that he slept next to you last night, Ashley. He's just a pup and will be in love with both of you! I am home all day with both the kids but when Hubby comes home from work.......they are his kids!!! They make all over him, lay with him on the couch, play with him; I'm non-existant! And yet I do all the feeding, grooming, vet, etc! LOL So they have bonded with him even though he is gone for almost 10 hours of the day!

So don't be worrying about little Chip, he wil be fine! But just keep doing all the things suggested to keep him moving in the right direction. Sounds like you are doing a good job with him!:)

lol, Ashley leave one of your shirts in the crate with Chip also, that way he has both smells.
Max ALWAYS sleeps on daddy's side of the bed, while Sammy is on top of me, LOL well as close as can be next to me, LOL

all the best, you both sound like loving parents and we are so happy you joined MT

How's Chip doing with his separation issues? Miko, my yorkie, went through some issues like that when he was a pup.
