Hello!!
My baby Lucas is in surgery right now having his neuter, they are taking out two baby teeths, and getting microchip. I feel so bad leaving him there!! I feel so weird being in my house without him:(. Im washing everything of my bed because he sleeps with us. Im just so nervous. I know he will be okay but still, He is my first baby and I get so worry with everything:o.
Do you have any advice that I should do before or after he comes home?
I know one thing is that I need to remove his stairs!
What else should I do?
Thank you for taking your time! :)

Aww poor Lucas!! He will be ok ;) He has a great mommy/nurse to take care of him when he gets home!!
The biggest suggestion I have is to keep him confined either to a crate or expen for the first couple of days. Since it is a fresh incision you will have to keep his movement to minimum so they don't tear or rip open. If you have an expen I think that would be best. Keep his water and food close also, and yes no stairs!! :D After a day or so he will feel better and want to play but try and keep him from moving so much. Give him something that he can lay down in one spot and play with a Kong or a Yogurt bone to chew on.
He is going to be reeeeeaaaaaal groggy when he gets home but SO happy to see you :) He will probably want to rest the first night and the next day which is good ;) You don't want him moving to much.
Are you getting him pain meds for after the surgery?? I would. Even if it seems like he doesn't need them, he probably is in a little bit of pain.

Aww, poor Lucas! I'm sure that he'll be just fine though and in a few days you'll never know that anything happened! I was worried about keeping Emma still after she was spayed (she's ordinarily pretty hyper) but she mostly just wanted to sleep or curl up in her bed. After about three days she was ready to move around a little more. I only gave her one dose of pain meds after I brought her home. My vet said that a little bit of pain was good because it would slow her down! I also got Em a little canned food because she had 8 teeth pulled then too. Hope Lucas is feeling better soon!

Thank you so much! It just broke my heart seeing my baby like that but like you guys said He will be fine. And the vet said that he doesn't need medecine! I got upset though because he like laughed of me when I asked him if he was going to give him medecine. The times that I have took Lucas to him he was really nice. Except for the last time he told me that I need to treat Lucas like a "dog" that he wasn't a baby. I got SO upset. Do you think that I am wrong feeling like that? I don't know I just don't feel good for all this situation. He is my first baby and everything that hurts him it hurts me too:(.

He may be fine without the pain meds. I wouldn't like that at all if the vet told me that!! These dogs are our babies!! I would have been rude if a vet said that to me!! My vet (well old vet now) used to love when I'd bring Mitzy in all dressed up :)

If you don't feel comfortable with your vet and you don't have total trust in him, move on! I think of Emma's vet the way that I do my own doctor. I wouldn't keep going to a doctor that I didn't feel completely at ease with, and I certainly won't take Emma to one. Emma's vet has several dogs herself and treats them like her "babies" - she told me to have fun with Em and that pups were meant to be spoiled. Everyone at the office loves to hold Emma and see what new outfit she's wearing when we go in. I went in last time with a whole list of questions and she patiently listened and answered everything for me without making me feel like a psycho dog mom for one minute!

I been thinking about it and I want to change the vet. I'll be looking for the next days. I took Lucas to that vet because he is the vet of my husband dog and my in laws cats! I hear a lot of bad things about petsmart and petco vets in the area where I live. So I need to look and see what's the best! Thank You Emma's mama and Jess Im so glad that I found this forum! All of you are the best! Especially because I am from another country and I do not have friends in this country! and nobody to talk about Lucas beside my husband! Thank you so much:hearter: Lucas and I really appreciate it.:hearter:

Aww I know how you feel.. In the last 3 years I've moved 3 times to be with my husband. So its hard to make friends when you move around so much :( MT is my family that will always be here when I'm not in one place :):hearter:

I know you must have been so worried about Lucas.......but I'm sure he will be just fine and up and about before you know it. THEN, you will be asking us how to keep him quiet and still. LOL:lol2::lol2::lol2:
I know the girls were active the next day after they were spayed but then it is a different procedure. I am always amazed at how quickly they get back to their little old normal selves.
Sending puppy pats to little Lucas. As far as the vet goes, if this is the only time you have had a problem with him then I would stick with him. He is wrong, these fluffs are like kids to us, not dogs. Of course even the great and fear inspiring Ceasar Milan would disagree with all of us on treating our fluffs like kids.................and I like Ceasar Milan. :p :p :p But he has this one all wrong!
Please update us when you can..........I know you will be chasing Lucas in no time, trying to calm him down.

I hope that both of you are feeling better this morning!
I bet he is already driving you crazy with wanting to get going!! The best way to keep them calm is to hold them!!
I bet that is going to be really hard to do for you!! Such a chore!!!:lol2::lol2::lol2:

Jack sends his best wishes on a speedy recovery. When Jack was neutered I was worried too, and he did fine, except for trying to jump up on the couch!! By next week he'll be back to his old self and you'll be chasing him all over the place again.

Hi!!
Thank you everyone for your replies! Lucas looks better today but he doesn't want to walk. I put him in the carpet with his bed (he has never used it) with water and pads next to my bed. But he didn't wanted to stay on his bed!. He slept with us in our bed. I couldn't sleep I didn't wanted that the two of us hurt him while we were sleep. My husband noticed that everytime he moved I was trying to kept Lucas safe, he said that I needed to rest and he went to sleep in his Dodger room:blush:. Today in the morning Lucas didn't want to eat (it was dry food with a little of water so it can be soft). Just a minutes ago I gave to him his favorite wet food he ate it like nothing:D. But everytime I touch him or carry him he makes noise like I am hurting him:(. I know it is normal. Yesterday my husband cousin came over to have dinner with his wife, she works in a vet hospital, she told me that they aways let go the pets with medecine after their spayed/neuter. She asked me for Lucas weight and today she called my husband telling him that she will bring some antibiotic and pain medecine for Lucas!. What do you guys thing? Do I should give him medecine?
Thank you so much I really appreaciate that you are here reading this post:hearter:

Well I'm sure you know by know that I'm all for medicine. I gave both mine pain meds for 5 days after their surgeries, even the cat. Its a personal preference though..

She gave me AMOXICILLIN (antibiotic), KETOPROFEN (for pain) I had gave him the antibiotic already because he was licking himself and it looks a little red, so I gave it to him. Now I am reading online about the other medecine!
Thanks Jess:)

My only boy fluff came neutered so I'm sort of clueless about the surgery. :p But I know with the girls, I used neosporin with pain as a topical treatment to not only help heal the incision but to help with the pain so they would not lick it. After I applied it, I would either hold them for a short time so they did not lick it off or else played with them to distract them until the med started to work. I have no issues with pain meds if they are needed. I am sure a little redness is "normal" and not necessarily an indication there is infection or anything wrong.
As far as the antibiotics...........I would only use them "IF" you think he has an infection. But then I am always cautious about using antibiotics. JMHO :)
Good that he is eating. I am sure he will continue to improve and feel better with each passing day. You are so normal being so concerned about Lucas..........that motherly instinct just never stops! :hearter:

Emma had amoxi-drops after she was spayed (amoxicillin) - I think that's pretty common. They sent her home with Metacam for pain - like I said, I gave her one dose that night. She didn't seem to be in much pain, and the vet suggested that a *little* bit of pain would probably slow her down so her incision could heal. I would have given her more if I really thought that she needed it though.
