Jack went to his 1st senior activity today!

The place we take Jack to for his nose work had a senior day today! They had 3 guest speakers: a vet who talked about changes in the dog when they hit that senior age, an integrative petcare (rehabilitation, sports medicine, holistic wellness and weight loss). She also talked about acupuncture, chiropractic care, laser treatments and much more. The massage therapist did a talk thru session with the owner doing the massage to their dog.
There were gift bags for the dogs, relay, agility and barn work areas set up so they could try. Jack did the barn work, had never tried before and he found the rat right away!! They got a 20 minute massage with a certified therapist, did paw painting and could have a picture with Santa taken.
There was a great turn out, about 40 dogs.
The photographer doing the Santa pictures took Jack's pictures a couple weeks ago and when they saw me they asked why we were there. When I told them Jack was 10 years old, they didn't believe me!!

That sound wonderful. Our senior Yorkie is developing a skin problem and thinning hair. I talked to a girl who just lost her 18 year old poodle. She said her peanut did the same. I have tried everything. I know it has to do with his age as the vet said it was due to his age. He will be 17 in April.

Jack may be a senior in age but he is young at heart. You go Jack. Glad he had fun. The message session sounds wonderful. Bet Jack really liked that.

That sounds like so much fun, Cheryl. Soo what kind of rat is in the barn? that's great that Jack sniffed it out so quickly. His sniffer is still working great. Did Jack do the paw painting.

Sounds like a great event to learn and have fun too! I'm sure being a dragon slayer has kept Jack fit as a fiddle!

The rat is a domesticated rat that is housed in a canister. In a big room they have bales of hay set up, some on ground level and others are piled to form a tunnel. They have to sniff all around the hay and find the rat. Jack had never done this before, but I think that the nose work class is helping him. He had no problem finding the rat. He just pawed at it, didn't try to get the canister open.

The massage session with the certified person was ok. Jack was a little nervous around her, with her wanting to touch all his body, but he did ok. I give him a massage every night and the lady said it's hard when they don't trust a new person, but if he did go to massage he would soon get used to someone else giving the massage.
I think he just likes his mom's special touch. He actually falls asleep.
