Jack did his Nosework Trials Saturday

My son and Jack did their first UKC Nosework Individual Element Trials on Saturday. He was such a good boy and so calm. He was entered in 2 container trials and 1 exterior trial and nailed them all.
They did an amazing job and Jack got his ribbons tonight when we went to class. He got 5 ribbons. His instructors were proud of him. He has now moved up to the advanced class.
This is a great activity to do with your dog. I got them a Nosework kit with different scents that can be practiced at home.
Jack really likes doing this and it is easy on his body. His nose gets a great workout.

Yay Jack! We are so proud of you! Do the competitions have different levels you progress through as you get better?

Jack was entered in novice events since this was his first trials. He had to pass the pre-trial first in order to go on to the events my son entered him into. If you don't pass the pre-trial, you can't go on. You're done right then and there.
There are a lot of events in each element. You have to master 2 events in one element to get a ribbon.
There are the container events: search and alert 1 scent, 2 scents, 3 scents. Each has a time limit and the time you get is what determines the order of 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
The exterior (outside) events are also divided into novice, advanced, 1,2.3 scents to search and alert. Again, the time determines the order of 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
This event was hosted by our K-9 establishment, so there were 3 other members of Jack's group that were there.
They all were sure Jack would have no problem passing his events and getting a master ribbon. They were very happy that he got a placing ribbon in one of the container events, a 3rd place. There were over 20 dogs in that event and that he got a 3rd place in his first time out, was very exciting for our club.
