No more cone

No More Cone! Tebow's stitches are out. He still has a little scab so wearing pajamas for the next week or so until the scab goes away. He doesn't mind that at all! We are still on basically no activity except for potty. He has one new exercise - standing weight shift.

So good news/ not so sure perfect news. Tebow has gone from a grade 3 luxating patella to between a .5 and a 1. Surgery doesn't always totally eliminate the luxation. Tebow falls in that category. But he will be totally functional. No pain. No 3 legged hopping. But I'm thinking no more agility for him He did agility back when he was a 1 and low 2 but since he progressed to grade 3 once, I'm afraid that could happen again. Not so sure fast, tight turns and jumps would be good for him. Thoughts? Any ideas of something else he could do and like. He always liked going to agility

No jumping. I always tried to keep Alex from jumping after his surgeries. Even bought stairs to get up on the couch and bed. Was not always successful.

I know! Tebow always has been and always will be a jumper. He thinks nothing of jumping on and off the couch. But at least that is isolated jumps instead of lots of jumps.

JMHO........maybe his agility classes are going to be great memories for you both. Not sure it's worth the risk.

I know. sigh...... A friend suggested Rally. I'm looking at that. Olelie can still do agility. Maybe even Bentley if he gets over his performance stage fright.

Happy to hear the cone is off. Jack drove us crazy when he had a cone on. I went and got one of those soft tub cones that connects to the collar the last time he needed to wear one. He still didn't like it, but he didn't bang his head when outside when he had that big old cone.

If they offer Nose Work, go for it. When Jack could no longer Agility and my son started him in Nose Work, he adapted very well. Jack really enjoys it and has gotten very good at it. The trainers want him to do trials.
Give it a try!

Go Jack! That sounds like a good adventure. What does Jack hunt. They had an exhibition set up at one of the agility trials. Tebow didn't want any part of the rat. Now when he got to hunt hot dogs, he was all for that.

Barn hunt has to do with the rat. Jack tried that too at a demo last year and he found the rat right away. I'm not to keen of finding rats!

Nose work has to do with scents that are put on patches and put inside special containers and then hidden. He has worked outside with the scents at class, finding them on cars and trucks. Inside work has been with boxes, closed containers, luggage, tables and chairs.
Outside is tough. You have major distractions, traffic, wind shift, grass, etc, but it is so cool when they get on the trail of the scent and then zero in on it.

Next month there is a trial coming to our dog place, so they want Jack to register for his first trial. He has his number now, so the instructors and all his class mates want him to go for it.

That sounds so cool. I wish I could see a video of it.

Go to Youtube and put nose work trials in search and you'll get to see what it entails.
