Question Clipper Blade #s & Cut Styles

I have the Andis AGC Super 2-Speed Clipper that came with a #10 blade, but realize this blade nearly shaves my baby bald! What size blades should I order, and for which parts of her body should I use these sizes? Any technique suggestions?

I really want to maintain a clean puppy cut, yet still keep a top knot for the cute bows! It is hard for me to find any cute pics.

hi! Some people use combs but I use the 5f blade for the body. I'm not very good with haircutting so I just leave the legs and face longer and clip the body. every time i try to scissor the legs, it winds up a disaster. Here is an example of my usual haircut I give my dogs. She is pregnant in this pic, so excuse her thick middle, LOL

I only use a 10 blade on the paw pads but if you get a set of clip on combs, you can use the 10 blade under your combs. Some people also use a 4f blade but I like the 5f.

And here are the combs (get the small size)

For my simple haircuts, I use the 5f all over the body (and butt) and you can see where I leave the hair longer.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions. If i try to do anything but this haircut, it's embarrassing, LOL

Do you use the 5F with a comb?

no i use the 5f by itself, no comb. If i use a comb, I use a 40 or 10 blade under the comb. I prefer not to use a comb though, but it's all a matter of preference. the 5f cuts the hair enough so it doesn't looked scalped, I find it leaves it a decent length.

I have the combs, and noticed they catch on her hair. I get somewhat hesitant when I use them. How much of a difference do you see between the 5F & 4F?

The 4f leaves the hair a little longer, I think. I can't remember the difference, I just know I prefer the 5f. I think it cut smoother? It's been a while since I've used my 4f, so it's just a matter of personal preference. I also had the problem with the combs catching the hair, the blade doesn't catch nearly as much. I do have two of the same blade so I don't have to worry about the blade getting too hot. I just switch it out when one starts getting warm.

Do you have any preferences on shears, too?

I mostly use a pair of curved shears I bought at a dog show. Some people like straight shears but I don't know sizes or anything. You dont' want a huge pair of scissors though.

7F 1/4"

what is a balding clipper? When I was in grooming school, I was a big sissy when I 1st tried the clippers...afraid I'd cut my poor guinea pig (it was a terrier mix). I agree w/Zanadu'sMom...you can use more tact, doesn't hurt.

Here's a great clipper set: http://www.petedge.com/product/Groom.../397/53298.uts
It has everything to start a home grooming salon!

Best Hair Clippers for Barbers

Clipper Blade are extraordinary to use instead of the old customary razor shave, as one doesn't continue consumes and cuts which you generally have from extremely sharp steels.
