Unhappy My Sweet Toby

My sweet Toby is gone. He had several episodes of HGE over the years and always recovered. He had another episode in July and recovered but he couldn't seem to regain his weight. But he was eating well, doing his business, playing ball and ruling over the girls like always.

This week he started having a slight breathing issue, fast but not deep breaths. But still active. Last night we took him to the emergency vet cause that all changed in a short time. Did blood work and xrays........seems he has had lung cancer for a while. There was also a huge amount of fluid in his belly......couldn't even find his heart on the xrays because of the amount of fluid. While they could find out where the fluid came from and reduce it by draining, that would be risky and no guarantees it would help or extend his life significantly.
And nothing would help with the cancer.

We made the decision to not let him suffer but to be there for him to the end. And that we did. It was a very peaceful passing and the staff was wonderful and treated us and Toby so loving and kind.

We cried and continue to cry. He was our only boy, only Yorkie and very very special. He is gone but will always reside in our hearts.

Oh, Carol, I'm so sorry to hear this news. Toby was such a special boy and I know how much you'll miss him.

I'm having trouble finding words to let you know how much I empathize with you. Give your hubby and all the girls a special hug. I know you'll never forget him.

Thanks, Jan. He was very special. He was the one that kissed me good night every night. He was the one that kept my back warm at night. He was the one I always shared my breakfast with. Just so many things to list that made him special. Miss him so much.

This house has never been so quiet......a very sad quiet!

Carol, I am so sorry about little Toby! I know you have so many wonderful memories to cherish. Lady Kallie was there to welcome him to the Rainbow Bridge, and now they can play and not be lonely.

Today is a bad day. Not sure why today but it's been so hard. Hasn't been two weeks and he is constantly on my mind, every where I look, I invision him being HIM. Hitting his soccer ball back and forth with me and barking for me to get it when it rolled under the TV stand. How every morning he would wait for his share of my English muffin. How he always escorted the girls outside. The nightly kiss and warmth on my back as he snuggled next to me. So so many little things that I miss.

Thank you, Diane. I never fully understood how deep my heart was entwined with my little boy but I'm sure finding out now. But with time I know I'll get through it but as you said I will always have my wonderful, happy memories.

So sorry for your loss Carol. Wow, he had lung cancer and you not even knew. Apparently I missed this post. So so sorry. The weeks after they are gone are so hard.

Thank you Janine,
I went to sleep last night crying over my boy. I know it will get easier but he added so much life to our family and is missed so very much. Just miss so many things that made him a special fluff.

The holidays always seem to bring sadness when a loved one is no longer with us, be it a friend, relative or a loving family pet.
I still miss my Max and put out at least one of his ornaments every year to look at.

I somehow missed this earlier. I'm so sorry about little Toby! It was a year in October since I lost my Emma and I still miss her so much. Olivia has made my house happy again, though.

Thanks Robin.......Toby is still very much missed, he was so special to me. I know you understand those feelings with the recent loss of your dear Skippy. Sending big hugs back at ya.
