What a week.

It has been quite a NOT fun week. Friday evening I got stung by 8 yellow jackets. Just an FYI - they do not like Miracle Grow Liquid Fertilizer! The buggers dug a hole in my flower garden and made their nest underground. I had watered the day before no problem. However, when I watered Fri, I had the Miracle Grow fertilizer dispenser attached to the hose. The yellow jackets came out in a furry. I have never seen so many bees at one time in my life. They are aggressive as can be and really come after you. And they can sting more than 1 time unlike most bees that die after they sting you. I left the hose on the sidewalk and went into the house. Told hubby and he took a look out the window and said he was off to Home Depot. Those bees swarmed for almost 2 hours. When it was dark, hubby was able to go out and spray the chemical down the hole. He said he felt kinda sorry for the bees. I told him I didn't. They picked the wrong place to make their nest. I was on Benadryl and calamine/bendaryl lotion until yesterday. You can still see where they stung me.

Monday I had Mohs surgery for a basal skin cancer. When I had my skin check a month ago, The doctor did a biopsy and it came back basal. I knew the Florida sun would get me one day. I'm actually surprised it took this long. I had 2 places for him to look at. The one I was worried about he looked at and said it was nothing and hit it with the freeze can. The one I wasn't worried about and though he would freeze is the one he biopsied. It was teeny tiny. However, it took 2 passes and I ended up with 3 inside stitches and 8 outside stitches. Geez.

Last night I decided I'd go to line dance class. Mistake! It was the first day I didn't feel the need for benadryl. Well I got hot, the sting areas started to turn red again and itch. Plus the stitches started itching too. I ended up leaving a little early. So today, I am staying inside in the air conditioning. and doing a bunch of nothing. Boring.

Your retirement days are just so packed with excitement!!!!! Can you see how much you would be missing out on if you were still working? Don't you love it!?!?

It's horrible to get stung by anything but you chose the best of the best to get stung by.

I feel for you and glad you are better!

WOW ! I was bitten once by a yellow jacket when I trimmed a shrub and I disturbed him. That was enough. Took a benadryl just in case.

That's awful! I'm glad you were able to finally get away from them and retreat into the house.

update - over a week later, you can still see the sting marks! As long as I don't get hot and sweaty it's ok. Still feel the urge to itch once in a while.
